Rank up in the Guile category and you’ll unlock two new, crime-based Expressions—Steal at Rank 3 and Lockpick at Rank 5.
STEAL FINE: 750 Gold
Use Steal to swipe items from shops and displays. Simply stand by the item you want, ensure no one is watching, and activate Steal when the icon appears on your context-sensitive d-pad menu. Once the on-screen bar is full, the goods are yours for keeps. If someone catches you mid-theft, quickly end the attempt and, if you’re lucky, you might just get away without a fine.
LOCKPick FINE: 200 Gold
Instead of beating down doors in the dead of night, you can use the Lockpick Expression to slip into buildings soundlessly. Simply stand in front of a locked door and activate Lockpick when no one is looking.
Beating the Rap
Budding criminals can make their lives a whole lot easier by keeping the following in mind:
• Always try and carry out your crimes at night.
• Wear stealthy clothing, such as the Assassin gear or Guard suit.
• Sneak by pressing in the left stick to avoid disturbing sleeping victims.
• Use the Detection Eye on your mini-map to check if you’re being watched
• If there are witnesses to your crimes, leave the area immediately afterward.
Bribing the Guards
Not every Guard is a bastion of virtue. Talk to one a few times and you’ll get the option to “Sponsor a Break.” Give the Guard enough cash and he’ll look the other way, whistling merrily while you go about your villainous deeds. Keep an ear out, though—once the whistling stops, he’s back on duty.
