If you’re in no particular hurry to complete your business at Orchard Farm, swing by Fisher Creek to the west of Greatwood Entrance and try your hand at the Fishing Lessons quest. As soon as you enter the area, you’ll be attacked by the world’s most half-hearted Wasp swarm. Quell its threat and a grateful local rewards you with a supremely useful Fishing Rod, plus a few lessons on how to use it.
All you need do is head over to the nearby jetty and park yourself close to the rippling water. Cast your Fishing Rod when the icon appears in your Quick Menu and your fishing fun begins. When you feel a tug on your Rod, rapidly tap the ‘Reel In’ button until the fish icon reaches the hook in the corner of your screen. Be careful, though; reduce the speed of your taps dramatically (or stop completely) when the gauge begins to turn red—your line is close to breaking! If your practice catch is successful, the Golden Fish Trophy will be yours.
Before you leave the area, raid the chest at Point A for a pair of Leather Gauntlets. You’ll also notice four fishing spots along the river bank to the left of the chest—use your Rod here to score 100 Gold, a Moonfish, a Working Moustache card, and a shiny Silver Key.
Fishing Competition
Return to Fisher Creek at any point after completing the Fishing Lessons quest and speak with the fisherman to enter the Albion annual Fishing Competition.
If you acquire a particularly impressive fish out in the wild of Albion, bring it back to Fisher Creek and let the fisherman size it up. Beat the current weight record (as indicated on the nearby sign) to win an exciting and glamorous prize. However, if your skills are sufficient to trounce the top score of 50g, you’ll receive a fetching Fisherman’s Hat, The Rod of Champions, and a Silver Key.
