Equipment
You have a plethora of weapons and armor from which to choose as you make your way through Odyssey. While your ranged options are limited to one type of bow, there are six melee weapon types. Each of these types has its own strengths and weaknesses, causing you to approach combat in unique ways, depending on your chosen weapons. As all weapon types are viable, test them all out and choose which one fits your play style the best.
At the beginning of your journey, your combat options are extremely limited to only a starting melee weapon. After you complete the first few quests and several encounters, your choices open up quite a bit, allowing you to customize.
You can increase weapon damage by finding new weapons, leveling up, engraving, upgrading at a blacksmith, or by purchasing abilities with ability points. The level of equipment you can purchase from blacksmiths or get from chests or other containers is dependent upon your level. Equipment looted from enemies is based on a range, linked to their level. Even if you kill a higher level enemy and it drops equipment higher than your level, you cannot equip it until you reach the item’s level.
Gear
As you progress through the game, you can utilize many different types of weapons and armor. You can see the gear you have equipped on the Inventory screen. There is no limit to the amount of Documents and Quest Items that you can have, but your gear is limited to 350 pieces. To see additional gear of a certain type, select that slot to bring up all the gear of that type for you to equip.
Weapons, quiver, your browse bag, and the engravings list are to the left of your character portrait, while armor and your mount are to the right. You can press the D-pad to the right to quickly switch between your two equipped weapons, once you have the Man at Arms ability at level 15. Additionally, by holding to the right on the D-pad, you can switch to a torch to light your path in dark areas. Once you have earned the Arrow Master ability, you can switch your arrow type (such as paralyzing, fire, poison, or explosive) quickly by pressing left on the D-pad.
Below your gear, along the bottom of the screen, are all of your vital statistics: Health, Hunter Damage, Warrior Damage, Assassin Damage, and Armor. Health is the amount of damage you can sustain before you become desynchronized, while Armor mitigates incoming enemy damage.
Hunter Damage affects all bow-based attacks and abilities. Warrior Damage affects all melee weapon attacks and abilities. Assassin Damage affects abilities only while in stealth, specifically using the Assassin skill or abilities.
To increase these stats, it is vital to maintain upgraded gear equal to your level. Certain abilities and overpower skills increase the base damage of their respective tree. Another way to increase the damage output of these three stats is by equipping gear that boosts the damage of those types. The effect of these boosts is cumulative and can be further increased by engraving the item at a blacksmith with one of the engravings you have unlocked. For additional information on gear, see the Reference chapter.
Quality
All gear falls under one of four quality types, from least powerful to most: common, rare, epic, and legendary. There is a vast difference between gear of the same level based on its quality. Base damage and armor of a piece of gear are increased relative to its quality level. Typically, common gear has one attribute. Rare gear has two; epic has three. Legendary gear has two plus either one Legendary perk if it is a weapon, or one set bonus perk if it is armor. Finally, each type allows you one Engraving slot to put whatever perk you have unlocked into that piece of gear at a Blacksmith.
Treasure chests come in the same four quality types. These are easily identifiable by the amount of extravagance seen in their design. Common chests are often plain wood, while legendary chests are heavily embellished. The type of chest you loot is relative to the type of item found inside.
Arrows
You start with basic arrows, which can be crafted with piece of one olive wood. As your journey progresses and you are able to purchase levels in the Arrow Master ability, you gain access to more powerful arrows that cause status effects. Note: Many active abilities do not allow you to use the various arrow types until the abilities are upgraded to their second and third tiers.

Paralyzing Arrows
2 Olive Wood, 1 Soft Leather
Due to a rounded tip, paralyzing arrows do less damage but can knock out a target. This can be extremely useful when looking for a lieutenant to recruit for the Adrestia. The target won’t be killed and can be recruited afterward.

Poison Arrows
3 Olive Wood, 3 Soft Leather
When firing a damaging attack, poison arrows begin to inflict poison damage. When you hit an enemy with a poison arrow, a meter appears overhead. With enough successive, successful shots the meter fills and the enemy is then intoxicated. Intoxication inflicts damage over time and weakens the damage and armor of the enemy, making each successive attack more powerful. By taking the Poison Mastery ability in the Assassination tree, you can build up poison and trigger intoxication much faster.

Fire Arrows
3 Olive Wood, 3 Iron Metal
When you fire a damaging attack, fire arrows begin to inflict burning damage. When you hit an enemy with a fire arrow, a meter appears overhead. With enough successive, successful shots the meter fills and the enemy is then burning, which inflicts a large amount of damage over time. By taking the Fire Mastery ability in the Warrior tree, you can trigger the burning effect much more quickly.

Explosive Arrows
5 Olive Wood, 2 Iron Metal, 2 Soft Leather
A sulfur mixture near the arrow’s tip results in a devastating impact. Explosive arrows hit all enemies in a small area of effect from where your arrow impacts and begins to apply the burning effect. These arrows are great for setting multiple enemies on fire or for blowing up oil vases for even more fire damage. By taking the Fire Master ability in the Warrior tree, the burning effect is applied much faster.

Death Arrow
6 Olive Wood, 6 Iron, 4 Soft Leather
The Daughters of Artemis teach you the secrets of how to craft this arrow after you defeat your second Legendary Animal. A Death Arrow inflicts 100% more damage than a normal arrow. Even though this arrow requires a lot of resources it is invaluable when facing the toughest of foes.
