The Road to the Symposium

Welcome to Athens

• Story: After you meet Deimos face to face, Herodotos travels with you to Perikles, leader of Athens, in the hopes he will have information on the whereabouts of your mother.

Reach Attika

From Andros (1), sail west to an eastern bay (2) in Attika. On the shores, Herodotos parts ways and tells you to meet him at the Pnyx in Athens.

Reach the Pnyx in Athens

You’re on new shores (Heights of Thorikos) and should keep your eyes open for new side quests and locations with objectives. Synchronize with the statue of Athena.

Follow the marker to find Perikles, Father of Democracy and the leader of this city (3), debating with Kleon, an Athenian captain.

You speak with Herodotos after the debate and he tells you to go see Perikles now.

Meet Perikles

Approach Perikles on the stage. An Athenian guard tries to stop you, but being with Herodotos gets you directly to Perikles.

Conversation with Perikles

Perikles will ask you about the debate which will lead to your agreement to play a servant to get inside a function. He will ask you to check on his colleague, Metiochos, and his friend, Phidias, who needs to be taken out of Athens. You can ask about these friends and complete the quest by selecting “I’ll get to it.”

A Venomous Encounter

• Recommended Level: 17
• Prerequisite: Complete Welcome to Athens
• Unlocks: Complete this quest, Escape from Athens, and Ostracized to unlock Perikles’s Symposium
• Story: Perikles mentioned a colleague named Metiochos who missed an appointment. To enter the symposium, you need to find him.

Go to Metiochos’s Estate

Greater Athens

From the debate stage (1), talk to Kleon beside the stage to pick up the For the People side quest on your way to the estate (2). Tell him you’ll take his commission. Drop into the courtyard by climbing the outer estate walls. Enter the room and inspect clues.

Kill the Snakes

When you enter the estate, you find Metiochos tied up on his knees in the back corner of the room and surrounded by snakes. Use arrows to eliminate all four snakes in the room.

Free Metiochos

Free the prisoner and speak to Metiochos.

Conversation with Metiochos

Metioches thanks you for freeing him. You can ask him about the snakes, the thugs, and where you can find them. Continue by selecting “I have what I need.”

Go to the Home of the Attackers

Leave Metiochos (2) and head a block southwest to the Poor Market (3). Look for clues when you reach the house but beware of the snakes in the enclosed backyard.

Investigate the House

Letter

Start from the rooftop of the house and work your way toward the clues in the back. On a ledge is a workbench under canvas. Investigate the clue there. From this ledge, there’s a good view of the backyard snakes below. Attacking from this vantage point is a good idea.

Snakes

Throw torches at the snakes around the nearest clue. Burn them and then investigate their bodies. If you have fire arrows already this is a good use for them.

Snakebite Victim

On the outside of the estate, at one of its corners, you can find a snakebite victim under a tree. Look into it to complete the investigation.

Conversation with Fishermen

When prompted, you can ask the fishermen about their actions or what you should do with them.They are not very forthcoming with any details. If you choose “Don’t protect a criminal” you can get what you want peacefully. Then one of the fishermen spills his guts about a camp outside the walls where you can find the one you are looking for.

Kill the snake dealer

Travel southwest to the Port of Piraeus to find a small campsite (4) outside the Piraeus Civilian Port (which has a location objective). Be careful on approach and be ready to shoot hard-to-spot snakes in the grass around the camp. Ikaros cannot tag snakes but can hone in on them if you get close enough. The poisoner is a strong adversary—measuring in at a level that matches your own. Use your best Warrior skills and abilities to defeat him. Loot the camp and his body for the poisoner’s dagger.

Report to Metiochos

Travel back to Metiochos (2) and speak with him. You tell him the story of how you saved the fishermen and he thanks you for your help. You earn a medium amount of XP.

Ostracized

• Recommended Level: 17
• Prerequisite: Complete Welcome to Athens
• Unlocks: Complete this quest, Venomous Encounter, and Escape from Athens to unlock Perikles’s Symposium
• Story: Tasked with influencing a vote to ostracize a seemingly innocent man, you have no choice but to do it if you wish to attend Perikles’s illustrious symposium.

Talk to Perikles’s Contact

Bouleuterion of Athens

Find Perikles’s contact (1) at the Bouleuterion of Athens, where the trial for the ostracism is about to go down. Talk to him.

Conversation with Perikles’s Contact

You can ask the man at the trial “What happens to the exiled?” or “What gets you ostracized?” To continue the quest “Tell me what to do.” He wants you to rig the ostracism vote.

Reach the Logismos Building in the Agora

You are tasked with switching out the ostraka bags to rig the vote. Head to the Logismos Building (2), which also has a location objective.

Send Ikaros to track the target and tag all the enemies and location objectives at the building. There may be mercenaries looking for you around the location. Take care of those first. Enter just about anywhere over the wall and begin assassinating lone guards. Sneak into the buildings to steal treasure and to switch the bags.

You are prompted to steal the contents of the small wood crate in the corner (3). Now that you have the real ostraka, you need to switch them for the fake ones (4).

Switch the Real Ostraka for the Fake Ones

Defeat Athenian soldiers as you make your way to the next room with the fake ostraka (4). Get to the rooftop of the tallest building and drop onto the rooftop balcony. Take the stairs down to the second floor and make the switch using the wooden crate with the marker over it.

Return to Perikles’s Contact

Complete the location objective, raid everything there, and then return to Perikles’s contact (2).

You unlock journey shoes (armor), get some drachmae, and earn a medium amount of XP upon completing this quest.

Escape from Athens

• Recommended Level: 17
• Prerequisite: Complete Welcome to Athens
• Unlocks: Complete this quest, Venomous Encounter, and Ostracized to unlock Perikles’s Symposium
• Story: In order for you to gain access to his symposium, Perikles tasks you with getting his friend and famous artist, Phidias, out of Athens.

Meet Phidias at His Workshop

Phidias’s Workshop

You can sneak into the workshop (1) or you can confront the Athenian guard at the front doors. Talk to the guard; it’s entertaining.

Conversation with Athenian Door Guard

Speak to the guard standing outside Phidias’s workshop (1). If you tell the guard “Phidias is my lover” he’ll let you pass for a conjugal visit.

Head inside the workshop to find and speak with Phidias, who is working on a piece of art on the third-level loft.

Conversation with Phidias

Phidias is surprised to see you but you tell him to relax because Perikles sent you. To proceed you can choose “We need to get you out of here.” He shares a document proving they are out to murder him. You can ask him if the accusations are true or who Perikles is to him. Answer “We should get going” to continue.

He wants you to take him to Seriphos, which means leaving the area. This is why you should take this mission (of the three that have unlocked) last.

Meet Phidias at Night at the Port of Piraeus

Port of Piraeus

Athenian guards enter the workshop no matter if you spoke to them first or snuck in to talk to Phidias. You tell Phidias to meet you at the docks after you deal with the guards. Drop-assassinate one and deal with the second quickly. Sometimes they have a guard dog with them.

Meditate to change the day to night and then talk to Phidias (2), who stands near the dock at the Port of Piraeus.

Conversation with Phidias

You can ask him about his friend Theras (to whom you’re delivering him) and then say “Let’s go” to get on board the Adrestia.

Escort Phidias to the Island of Seriphos

Sail, 3,000 meters southeast to Seriphos (3). Athenian ships ambush you when you leave the harbor so be prepared for battle. Dock the ship in Chora and you automatically leave the ship and meet his friend Theras on shore.

Conversation with Theras

The conversation with Theras ends when he hands you information revealing a cultist’s name, Brison.

You obtain a scroll from Phidias’s informer (a cultist clue), a weapon, and a good amount of XP for completing this quest.

Perikles’s Symposium

• Recommended Level: 17
• Prerequisite: Complete A Venomous Encounter, Escape from Athens, and Ostracized
• Unlocks: Quest lines Land of the Lawless, A Prescription for Discovery, and Pirate Hospital
• Story: You were finally given access to Perikles’s fabled symposium. You know the other guests are your best chance for information about your missing mother.

Reach Perikles’s Home

Perikles’s Residence

Surprisingly, you run into Phoibe, who greets you to Perikles’s home when you enter the building (1).

Conversation with Phoibe

Excited and worried to see Phoibe in such times of peril, talk to her and ask how she got there. You learn she works for Aspasia and needs you to check your clothes and weapons at the door. You can ask her why you have to change and why she’s working for Aspasia. To enter the gathering select, “I’m ready to go in.” You can choose to wear just normal clothes with “I won’t change my clothes” or wear servant clothes with “I will change my clothes.”

Talk to Herodotos

Herodotos is the first person you see at the gathering. Talk tohim.

Conversation with Herodotos

After he introduces his guests around the room you can comment “I’ve heard of Sophokles” or “That doesn’t look very intellectual.” Either comment gets you to where you need to be. Further discussion evenetually leads to a conversation about Deimos. Answer “You should get going” to move along.

Gather Information about Your Mother

The conversation unlocks two support quests that take place inside the symposium and must be completed to complete this quest (Perikles’s Symposium). The two support questsare Drink Up and Oil and Love.

Talk to Sokrates

Conversation with Sokrates

Talk to Sokrates, who’s in the main room talking with another thinker.

During the conversation, Aspasia enters the room and you follow her to the side of the room, where she sends Phoibe to fetch Perikles from the rooftop pergola area.

Conversation with Aspasia

Aspasia starts by talking about covering up your mess in Megaris. She insinuates that your interests are similar but how you reach your goals is different and then focuses on the clothes you are wearing. She mentions Anthousa in Korinth and Xenia (a pirate admiral) in Keos. These are your next two leads. This opens a couple of quest strands after the completion of this quest.

Talk to Perikles

Head through the same hallway that led to Alkibiades’s door (in the quest Oil and Love), but take the stairwell up to the rooftop level. Follow the marker into a rooftop enclosure and to a door with an objective marker on it. Interact with the door.

Phoibe directs you to Perikles standing looking over the balcony wall and talking with Herodotos.

Conversation with Perikles

He seems standoffish at first, but you can relieve his apprehension by telling him “Aspasia sent me.” You continue to relay the message she gave you that she wants him to come down and join the party. You can pry a bit and ask about Phidias’s escape, the ostracism, and sending Metiochos somewhere dangerous, and you discover he was doing all this to protect his friends. To continue, respond “I have something to tell you.”

Leave the Symposium

Head downstairs to the entrance and talk to Phoibe to get your clothes and weapons back. Tell her “I’m ready to go” and then tell her where you are going (to Keos, Argolis, or Korinthia). The answer does not prevent you from changing your mind afterward. You earn the letter to the master (cultist clue) and earn a lot of XP when you and Phoibe say your good-byes again to finish the quest.

Drink Up

• Recommended Level: 18
• Prerequisite: Talk to Herodotos during Perikles’s Symposium
• Unlocks: Continuation of Perikles’s Symposium
• Story: Distracting Sophokles from himself long enough to ask for information about Myrrine will be difficult, so you have to bend the rules a little. It is time to get Euripides drunk.

Get information from Sophokles

Perikles’s Residence

Talk to the man in the kitchen who has just been verbally sparring with Euripides.

Conversation with Sophokles

If you tell the man in the kitchen “That wasn’t a fight.” He laughs and introduces himself. He suggests you get Euripides drunk to make him talk. Answer “Let’s get Euripides drunk.” Next, you can askhim why Perikles invited him or why he’s upset about Euripides. To continue select “Time to liven up the party.” You learn that sweet wine will make Aristophanes sick.

While in the kitchen, talk to the woman in the corner. There’s a magnifying glass over her head.

Conversation with Lady in the Kitchen

Sounds like a lousy pickup line, but if you tell her “I’m here for your sweet wine” she directs you to the sweet wine and it’s added to your inventory as “aged wine.”

Before you leave the kitchen, pick up the olive oil from the table. You can’t miss it. It’s sparkling. This is the item you need for the next support quest. Exit the kitchen and walk to the marker on the left.

Conversation with Aristophanes and Euripides

The goal here is to obtain information. If you choose “You should have a drinking competition” this will begin getting them both drunk. Aristophanes eventually pukes if you select “Drink up” a few times. You can now get the info you need from Euripides.

He tells you that your mother could have sought his friend Hippokrates, who is a physician in Argos. Later, when you have time, you can get drunk and sing with these two. But for now, return to Sophokles in the kitchen.

Return to Sophokles

Return to the kitchen and talk to Sophokles again.

Conversation with Sophokles

Tell Sophokles that “Euripides can’t see straight” and that he can escape without being spotted. That completes this quest. Complete Oil and Love next.

Oil and Love

• Recommended Level: 18
• Prerequisite: Talk to Herodotos during Perikles’s Symposium
• Unlocks: Continuation of Perikles’s Symposium
• Story: In the safety of Perikles’s abode, people can indulge their more fanciful whims. So it is with Alkibiades, Perikles’s ward, who intends to spend his night entertaining himself…and others.

Get Information from Alkibiades

Perikles’s Residence

With the olive oil from the kitchen in your inventory (you can grab it during Drink Up), head south through the main room and enter the hallway that splits to the left and right. Take a left to reach Alkibiades’s door.

Conversation with Alkibiades

You can seduce Alkibiades (who is a love interest) by choosing “Sounds like quite the party.” With the oil in your possession, you can then answer “Here’s your oil” followed by “Let’s get these clothes off” to continue the romance. After your romantic interlude, select “You must mean the hetaerae” to get the information you came for: Anthousa in Korinth.

Now head back into the Perikles’s Symposium main quest (in the same house) to complete the quest and unlock multiple quests.
