Abilities allow you to build your character to suit your play style. They are divided into a baseline tree and three main ability trees: Hunter, Assassin and Warrior. All Hunter, Assassin, and Warrior abilities have three tiers. We provide all the relevant information on each ability and what is required to purchase the second and third tier of that ability. There are two ability wheels, melee and ranged, to which you must assign abilities after you purchase them if you wish to activate them. Warrior and Assassin active abilities are assigned to the melee ability wheel, while the Hunter active abilities must be assigned to the ranged ability wheel. Each wheel has only four locations in which an ability may be assigned.
Baseline Abilities
These abilities are granted to you at the start of the game except for the Man at Arms ability. Baseline abilities do not require you to spend ability points in order to upgrade. Instead, the ones that can be upgraded each have their own specific requirement.
Summon Phobos
- Available: After completing the So It Begins quest
- Tiers: 1
With this ability you can call your horse, Phobos, to your side. If you use this ability while running, Phobos will catch up with you and you will auto-mount your steed. This is a great way to quickly traverse an area or escape from overwhelming odds. Keep in mind, Phobos cannot be summoned in dangerous areas (where the radar area of the HUD is red). It is also possible to stand up in the saddle and leap from Phobos’s back to engage quickly in combat if the need arises.
Meditation

- Tiers: 1
This ability allows you to progress time from day to night or night to day as long as you are not currently in combat.
Eyes of Ikaros
- Available: Start of game
- Tiers: 3
- Tier 2 Upgrade Requirement: Synchronize 25 waypoints
- Tier 3 Upgrade Requirement: Synchronize 35 waypoints
At tier 1, when you activate the Eyes of Ikaros you control Ikaros to locate targets and tag enemies. Additionally, Ikaros can now harass targets you are currently engaged with, which is especially useful when fighting multiple opponents. At tier 3 Ikaros’s accuracy is further increased.
Assassination
- Available: Start of game
- Tiers: 1
If you are currently sneaking and the enemies nearby haven’t been alerted to your presence, you may perform an Assassin attack. This attack uses your Assassin damage, which deals considerably more damage than a Hunter or Warrior attack. To increase the damage potential of this ability, equip items with boosts to Assassin damage and choose and upgrade abilities in the Assassin ability tree.
Leap of Faith
- Available: Start of game
- Tiers: 3
- Tier 2 Upgrade Requirement: Reach level 20
- Tier 3 Upgrade Requirement: Reach level 40s
This ability keeps you from dying when jumping from great heights. However, at tier 1 you still suffer damage when you land. The higher the fall, the more damage you receive. Jumping from too great of a height into combat should be avoided until this ability upgrades. At tier 2, jumps from any height no longer cause damage. This grants you freedom when traversing terrain regardless of the height. At tier 3, while you are falling you can press your heavy attack button to perform a ground smash, which stuns all nearby enemies.
Whistle
- Available: Start of game
- Tiers: 1
Whistle is a powerful ability that allows you to attract an enemy’s attention, causing them to investigate the general area it originates from. Whistling can be used to separate large groups of enemies and lure them to areas where you can assassinate them away from prying eyes. Man at Arms
- Available: Level 15
- Tiers: 2

At tier 2 you gain an additional ability wheel for Warrior and Assassin abilities.
Defensive Maneuvers
- Available: Start of game
- Tiers: 1
This ability grants you two types of defense, dodge and parry. Dodging an attack is typically the best form of defense, as it completely avoids damage and is useful when fighting enemies that perform unblockable attacks. However, the proper use of a well-timed parry staggers the attacker and any nearby opponents, granting you a brief moment during which your target is vulnerable.
Recruit
- Available: After completing the Learning the Ropes quest
- Tiers: 1
The Recruit ability is a powerful tool to make your trips on the Adrestia a bit safer by hiring a lieutenant to improve the abilities of your ship. If you use knockout damage to defeat foes, they are then available to be recruited when you approach them on the ground. Be sure to use Ikaros to view enemies and see what useful abilities they would have when serving aboard the Adrestia. You have a limited amount of space aboard the ship, so choose carefully.
Hunter Abilities
Hunter abilities require you to spend ability points. These abilities almost exclusively boost your bow attacks and grant you active abilities. The Hunter abilities Sixth Sense and Beast Master are useful to any class archetype. Tier 2 is where this skill truly shines, since you can now use special arrows with this ability. Additionally, you deal 150% additional Hunter damage, while fire and poison arrows are 75% more effective.
