Exploration

There is plenty to do outside of the main Odyssey quests and numerous side quests. This table lists some of these activities and where in this guide you can find additional information on them.

Activities

Crafting

Crafting plays a significant role in keeping your character equipped with specialty arrows, upgrading your gear, and upgrading the Adrestia. Collect resources from the environment, from containers, by dismantling your unwanted gear, and by sinking enemy ships. Gear of a higher tier grants more resources when dismantled. Sinking ships grants a large quantity of resources.

Upgrading your gear and the Adrestia costs a significant amount of resources for each level of upgrade. It is very difficult to have enough supplies to upgrade all of your gear. Focus on legendary items that benefit your play style so you have enough materials left over to keep the Adrestia in fighting strength.

Blacksmith

There is a blacksmith in every large town where you can buy, sell, upgrade, and engrave your items. The items available for purchase are always within one to two levels of your current level. Keep in mind you cannot equip items that are above your level. The blacksmith sells a variety of items of various quality. You can also purchase different mounts and crafting materials. When you select the Sell option, there is a choice to Sell All Trade Goods. These items are only valuable for earning drachmae, the in-game currency. Unless you are really hurting for money, you should never sell gear but should instead dismantle it.

Upgrading your gear at the blacksmith requires not only drachmae but also large amounts of crafting materials. However, if you have specific gear that you really like using, this is the only way to keep that gear relevant as you progress on your journey.

Each item has only one slot available for engraving, regardless of its quality or level. The blacksmith will put an engraving that you have unlocked onto a piece of gear for a small amount of resources and drachmae. You should always engrave each piece of gear you have, and it should be tailored to take advantage of your current gear and abilities. Engravings become more powerful as you unlock them by completing challenges.

Viewpoints

There are numerous viewpoints across the land and multiple viewpoints in each region, so be sure to grab all of them. Once you reach a viewpoint, hold the loot button to synchronize with it, earning XP. This also allows you to fast-travel to the location, reveals nearby locations, and allows Ikaros to increase his ability to target enemies and treasure. As a bonus, each viewpoint offers a Leap of Faith location to quickly and safely descend.

Taking Photos

If this is enabled under Main Menu/Options/Gameplay, you can press both the left and right analog sticks to snap a picture. These photos are then accessible from the Map screen. You can also share your photos with the community and view theirs as well.

Mercenaries

You aren’t the only mercenary traveling the Greek isles. Mercenaries always start off undiscovered, so you can’t learn anything about them in the Mercenaries menu. Mercenaries have their own agenda and travel the land. When one is nearby, you see a helmet icon on your map and radar. If you use Ikaros to target the mercenary, or if you get close to one, the mercenary becomes discovered in the menu, where you can review all of the relevant information.

Bounty Hunters

Committing crimes in ancient Greece is not tolerated, at least not if you are seen committing them. If you are caught stealing, killing innocents, or killing soldiers of the region’s current nation you begin to accumulate a bounty on your head. This is indicated by your bounty meter in the bottom right of the HUD. Normally, the five helmets are gray, meaning there are no bounties against you. As you commit crimes, the bar slowly starts to fill toward the first helmet. Once it reaches the helmet, a mercenary will come looking for you to collect the bounty. The more helmets that are filled, the more difficult and numerous the mercenaries who are coming to collect your head.

Luckily, all bounties have a sponsor, who can be paid off or killed to reduce the bounty meter. Additionally, performing no illegal actions also slowly reduces the bounty meter. However, defeating mercenaries is an excellent way to maximize the quality and strength of your current gear. For more in-depth information on mercenaries, see the Activities chapter.

Cultists

As you progress in your first Odyssey quest, you eventually encounter the Cult of Kosmos. These cultists pose a dire threat to all of Greece and must be stopped. They’ve become adept at hiding in the shadows, so finding the cultists is much easier said than done. When the Cultists menu becomes available to you, you have the ability to reveal some of them and learn their locations in the world. However, for others you have only clues, giving you a general idea on how to unveil them. Your overall goal is to find and defeat all the cultists and their sage masters to uncover their leader, the Ghost of Kosmos. Defeating cultists earns you artifact fragments, which are used to upgrade the Spear of Leonidas, along with Legendary gear. For more information on the Cult of Kosmos, see the Activities chapter.
