Throwing the Bet

Story: You find a man taking bets on the Olympics. He wants you to help a competitor in the javelin competition who seems to have lost his confidence.

Find the street vendor, Aletes, on the west side of the sanctuary. He wants you to help a competitor named Pithekos. Talk to the guy to find out he needs another javelin. You have the choice to buy a simple javelin from a nearby street vendor for 2,000 drachmae or steal a worn javelin from the Olympic Gymnasium. Bring it back to Pithekos. You then have the opportunity to change your mind about which javelin you provide the competitor, but you will then have to get the other javelin (either purchase or steal). Return to Aletes, who is taking bets for the competition. If you provided the simple javelin, you are given the option to not gamble or to place a low (1,000 drachmae) or high (3,000 drachmae) bet. With the worn javelin, you are also given the option to not gamble or to place a low (1,000 drachmae) or high (3,000 drachmae) bet. Return to Aletes for the results and your reward. With the simple javelin, Pithekos wins and you are given your winnings (2,000 or 6,000 drachmae) plus the quest reward. With the worn javelin, he loses and you lose the bet. Therefore, the only way you can come out ahead on this bet is to provide the simple javelin and bet high. This nets +1,000 drachmae. Otherwise, you gain nothing or lose 1,000 drachmae.
