Assassin's Creed Odyssey eGuide Odyssey Main Quests Chapter 3: Phokis

Of Visions and Visionaries

Consulting a Ghost

  • Recommended Level: 10
  • Prerequisite: Complete Onward to Phokis
  • Unlocks: The Truth Will Out
  • Story: Oracles and prophecies have destroyed your family. So when Barnabas suggests you consult with the Oracle of Delphi to help find your mother, you do so with great reluctance and skepticism.

Speak with the Oracle of Delphi

Temple of Apollo

To open the map up a bit and find new side quest opportunities, synchronize with the Temple of Artemis. Take a couple of side quests you find on your way to the Oracle. When you’re ready, ride west on horseback into Phokis to find the Oracle (3) at the Temple of Apollo.

A conversation with Barnabas and Herodotos (a new acquaintance) occurs. When you discover that Barnabas’s new acquaintance recognizes your Spear of Leonidas then a conversation must be had.

Conversation with Barnabas

Choose your approach when talking with Barnabas. When speaking to Herodotos you can ask about the Oracle, the line, and why so much security, but “I have questions for the Oracle” gets you closer to the door.

Synchronize with the temple and then speak to the priest at the entrance to gain entry.

Conversation with the Oracle

You meet the Oracle inside. You are given the choice to talk about your mother or your father: “Where is my mother?” and “Who is my father?”—two very good first questions. This is not a branching decision, but you have to choose only one question. If you did not save the sick people in the village of Kausos (Side Quest: The Blood Fever), then the Oracle will call you out on this bad decision before the guards shut her up.

After being thrown out, you run into Herodotos outside.

Conversation with Herodotos

During this conversation you can choose to reveal what you learned inside about the Cult of Kosmos or just tell him “Never mind.” This is not a branching decision. Select “I’m going to find her” to complete the quest.

Meeting the Oracle where she lives, away from her guards so you can get answers, is a sensible quest. This continues in The Truth Will Out.

The Truth Will Out

  • Recommended Level: 14
  • Prerequisite: Complete Consulting a Ghost
  • Unlocks: Completing this quest along with Snake in the Grass unlocks The Serpent’s Lair
  • Story: All at once, you meet the Oracle, renowned for predicting futures, and Herodotos, famous documentarian of the past. To get to the truth, however, you seek a private audience with the former.

Find and interrogate the Oracle

House of the Pythia

Head to Chora of Delphi and to the House of the Pythia (1). Send Ikaros up to find the Pythia and to tag all the guards, treasures, and captains in the restricted zone. These are low level compared to you if you’ve been continuing side quests along the way. The captains are around level 12, the cultists are around 13, and you should at least be level 14 now.

Get to the rooftops (3) using the fallen tree (2) on the edge of the restricted zone. Drop onto the guard below on the veranda (4). He’s all that stands between you and the door to your target.

The Pythia…the Oracle. At first she is scared and calls for guards, but you can talk her down aggressively or by asking nicely.

Conversation with the Oracle

You have a choice to learn about the cult—who works for them, where the visions came from—or just to cut to the chase and answer the trigger option: “I’m going to find the cult.”

Talk to Herodotos

Defeat the remaining enemies and collect the two treasures (5) and (6) to complete the location objective.

Herodotos stands just outside the restricted area. Follow the objective marker to find him (7) on a small dirt road nearby. You tell him what the Oracle revealed to you. Finish Snake in the Grass to continue this storyline.

Snake in the Grass

  • Recommended Level: 13
  • Prerequisite: Complete The Wolf’s Fate and The Truth Will Out
  • Unlocks: Completing The Truth Will Out and Snake in the Grass unlocks The Serpent’s Lair
  • Story: Nikolaos had ominously warned you about snakes in the grass. So when Elpenor tried to kill you in Pilgrim’s Landing, he finally shed his skin and revealed his deceitful and deadly nature.

Assassinate Elpenor

Pharsalos Fort

Elpenor (2) is thought to be inside the Pharsalos Fort’s restricted zone. Might as well take out a location objective while killing Elpenor for his robes and mask. Leave the Oracle’s house (1) and travel north. Use Ikaros to locate Elpenor and tag everything in the fort.

A tunnel (6) beside the fort leads to a watery entrance into the fort and places you inside on the lower floor of where Elpenor (5) hangs out when he’s undisturbed.

But it may be smarter to start by climbing the closest wall (3) between you and the brazier (4). Climb walls and avoid detection to set the trap first thing.

Methodically kill the guards on the highest towers and the loners to get to Elpenor (5), who is being tagged by the objective marker. So this marker moves with him on patrol. Blow your stealth cover and he’ll seek you out.

Find Elpenor

After putting Elpenor down you discover he was a decoy. Elpenor will be in the cave entrance behind the Snake Ruins in the Valley of the Snake. Complete the location objectives and then take off after Elpenor in the cave entrance near the Snake Temple (6).

Assassinate Elpenor

Now you must find the real Elpenor. The objective marker is to the southeast (7). If you’ve synchronized there you can fast-travel to Satyr’s Respite in Valley of the Snake.

After using Ikaros to locate Elpenor hiding in a cave (9), tag all the points of interest in the Snake Temple. Start from the hilltops (8) and come down on the two cultist guards at the cave entrance (9). Make it so your gear enhances your Warrior ability and then drop-assassinate one and demolish the other.

Consider clearing the Snake Temple (exterior) before heading into the cave in case the fight with Elpenor spills outside the cave. This way he will not get assistance. Follow the shallow cave to the end and you find Elpenor hiding in a cavern. It’s difficult to sneak in a stealthy attack of any type—except a single arrow shot. He sees you coming and from then on it’s all about using Warrior tactics.

Snake Temple

Acquire a Disguise from Elpenor

When Elpenor goes down, inspect his body. Talk to him. This unlocks The Serpent’s Lair quest in the Beware the Snakes quest line. You gain his scaled torso armor. Keep this one a while and upgrade it until something better comes along. You also collect a artifact fragment and a Cult of Kosmos ceremonial outfit. Complete the Snake Temple location objectives before you leave the area.
