An Actor’s Life for Me
- Recommended Level: 41
- Prerequisite: Complete The Resistance
- Unlocks: A-Musing Tale
- Story: Athens’s finest actor, Thespis, is nowhere to be found. If Aristophanes wants his next play to succeed in its critique of Kleon, he needs the talent of this man. You swear to find him.
Talk to Aristophanes
Attika: Greater Athens
While in Perikles’s residence (1), speak to Aristophanes after the meeting.
Conversation with Aristophanes
Aristophanes needs to have Kleon portrayed in a bad light to discredit him successfully. But his leading man is missing. You can ask “What happened?” and “Why is Thespis special?” before continuing with “Tell me where you think Thespis is.” You learn he’s drunk and not far from home. Accept the challenge with “I’ll fetch Thespis.”
Reach Thespis’s House
Get on horseback and ride north through town, avoiding mercenaries if possible, to find Thespis’s house (2). Use Ikaros to pinpoint his location. Stop at the blacksmith to top things off with upgrades and engravings. Once inside the house, you catch a guard off-guard, take him down, and question him with your spear to his throat.
Conversation with Bulis
You first wrestle the name out of your captive inside Thespis’s house. Ask Bulis both “What are you doing?” and “Where’s Thespis?” and end with “You must know more.” He’s there on orders to destroy the play’s manuscript while his men are keeping Thespis drunk at a tavern down the street. You can kill him with “You should die” or have him join your crew (because he’s so loyal) by selecting “Join me.” Or let him go with “Don’t let me see you again.” The last two are civil.
Talk to Thespis at the Tavern
Run out into the streets and head southeast, following the objective marker to some guys getting Thespis drunk outside in the tavern courtyard (3).
Conversation with Andras
Thespis is too drunk to talk. One of the Athenian soldiers getting him drunk takes over the conversation. He asks you to leave. You can respond either “Not without Thespis” or “I don’t want any trouble.” Both of these get negative responses. He tells you that Thespis is not going anywhere per Commander Rhexenor’s orders.
You can choose to be aggressive and say “Go back to your goat pen” or more direct with “Get out of here!” or “Let’s make a deal.” Don’t make a deal. Tell them to get out of there. Show some spine. They back down and leave you alone.
Carry Thespis to His Home
Pick Thespis up off the ground, where he fell after the conversation ended. Call Phobos, place the drunk actor across the butt of the horse, and then mount and ride to Thespis’s home (2).
Take him off the horse and place him on the rug on the floor just inside his front door. Talk to him.
Conversation with Thespis
Thespis, still very drunk, is on the floor and ready to talk. He tells you he can’t perform because he needs his muse. Ask him “Why won’t you perform?” and “Who were those men?” and then say “Pull yourself together.” You learn his love’s name is Aikaterine and that she’s at the House of Aphrodite just to the west.
Kill the Athenian Guards
After the conversation, you walk outside to find the fight you put off at the tavern is now happening in front of Thespis’s house. Tell Andras to suck it by selecting “I’d mess yours up, but…” and then make sure he’s the first of these Athenian thugs to die. After a kill or two, the remaining soldiers are indicated with markers overhead. This helps if more soldiers or mercenaries join the fray. Once the remaining soldiers are defeated, the quest ends and continues in A-Musing Tale.
A-Musing Tale
- Recommended Level: 41
- Prerequisite: Complete An Actor’s Life for Me
- Unlocks: This is one of two quests that must be completed to unlock The Knights.
- Story: Thespis will not perform in Aristophanes’s latest play unless he has his muse by his side. It is crucial that he and the woman who inspired him are reunited in time for his performance.
Talk to Aikaterine
Attika: Greater Athens
Find Aikaterine (1) outside under a pergola at the House of Aphrodite. Talk to her.
Conversation with Aikaterine
Thespis’s muse does nothing but hit on you from the moment you meet her. Say either “So much for love” or “Thespis sent me” and she’ll tell you that she cannot help the actor or Commander Rhexenor will kill her. You can ask “Who is Commander Rhexenor?” or “Why were you threatened” or continue with “The commander won’t be a problem.” You learn this Rhexenor is a cultist. She asks you to assassinate Rhexenor for the torture he’s dealt. You can ask “Where is the commander?” and “What does the commander look like?” before ending the conversation with “The commander’s a dead man.” Before you leave, she asks for Rhexenor’s sword for proof of job completion.
Rhexenor the Hand
Rhexenor the Hand becomes identified on the Cultist menu. He’s your next target.
Kill Polemarch Rhexenor and Acquire His Sword
She wasn’t kidding—Rhexenor is right next door across the street to the north. He’s in the Weapons Storage fort (2).
Weapons Storage
This is a very small facility. Here near the end of the story, you don’t need tips on how to take one of this size out. But we do suggest you clear all guards in the restricted zone to avoid mercenary help for Rhexenor at the end. The tightrope (3) across the middle makes for fun drop assassinations.
Once you do wipe out the cultist (4), confirm the kill to collect the artifact fragment, Athenian War Hero belt, and Rhexenor’s sword (quest item).
Report to Aikaterine
Return to Aikaterine (1) where you first found her. Talk to her.
Conversation with Aikaterine
You hand over the sword she requested, and she gets closer to you. You can respond “There’s too much at stake” or romance her with “I can stay awhile…”
Report to Aristophanes
Ride southeast to the amphitheater (5) to talk to Aristophanes.
Conversation with Aristophanes
Aristophanes greets you and asks about your progress. You tell him Thespis will be in the play tomorrow. You can tell him either “I’m never working with actors again” or “It’s no trouble.” Both are good answers. The play is acted out before you and everyone…including an increasingly agitated Kleon. He eventually walks out of the play with his head down.
Unearthing the Truth
- Recommended Level: 41
- Prerequisite: Complete The Resistance
- Unlocks: This is one of two quests that must be completed to unlock The Knights.
- Story: Sokrates asks you to help find information at the Akropolis that could turn the people against Kleon. Sokrates asks to meet you at the Pnyx once you’ve found evidence of his madness.
Talk to Sokrates
Attika: Greater Athens
Find Sokrates in Perikles’s residence (1) and talk to him.
Conversation with Sokrates
Sokrates pats you on the shoulder to make you feel better about staying behind to help and not going right after Kleon. Ask “Tell me your plan” or say “Kleon should die.” With Sokrates, we suggest the lighter approach (the first option). He’s discovered Kleon is hiding something at the Akropolis Sanctuary. You can ask “What if the plan doesn’t work” before you select “I’ll find the proof.” Then ask him “What other information do you have?” and “I’ll go now.”
Find Proof of Kleon’s Corruption
Akropolis Sanctuary
Run northeast toward the objective marker near the statue of Athena (2). You can probably get there quicker than you would using fast travel. When you get close to the Akropolis Sanctuary, use Ikaros to target the house in the northwest corner of the compound.
There’s a route you can take to avoid all the Athenian guards, and this route is good for the back-and-forth traveling you will need to do in the sanctuary. Climb the south wall of the Akropolis (3) and walk along the wall and rooftop, heading west then northwest to the roof’s edge to leap across the tops of fence posts (4) and scaffolding to reach the next rooftop to the north.
Run to the north side of this rooftop to find a very small backyard (5) with a locked chest. Ignore that for now and enter the small house (6).
Interact with the these clues in the house, which will help discredit Kleon: the letter to Kleon on the desk in the front room; the shovel leaning on the wall between the two treasures; and the muddy tracks at the side door you entered the building through on your way from the backyard.
Get the Key from Phaelos
To get into the locked chest, you need the key from Phaelos (9), who is near the main Akropolis building on the southeast side of the compound. Get back to the rooftops and backtrack along the route that took you here. Continue along the top of the south wall (7) to reach Phaelos stealthily.
At the end of the treasury building’s rooftop is a guard on the ground below (8). Drop-assassinate him and continue east for your main target (9). Phaelos is facing you, but you can sneak in a Rush Assassination before your cover is blown. Take the chest key (quest item) from his dead body.
Find Proof of Kleon’s Corruption
Following the same route, return to the backyard (5) with the locked chest. Open the locked chest using your newly acquired key. You’ll receive Kleon’s papyrus (quest item), a snake staff, and reinforced leather gloves.
Meet Sokrates at the Pnyx
Travel southwest from the Akropolis to the Pnyx (10) to talk to Sokrates.
Conversation with Sokrates
Sokrates is about to give a speech that should change the public’s minds about Kleon. You hand him the evidence of corruption you found at the Akropolis. Tell him you’ll join him on stage for the speech. He tells you to follow his lead and respond as if you were one of Kleon’s supporters.
Once on stage, answer “Of course I’m not!” to the first question about being responsible for harm if hiring someone else to harm another. Next, he asks you whom should you trust—the many, or the one who has more expertise. Answer “I decide with the crowd.” Lastly, say “I’d find someone new” to follow if that person on top had lied to the people. When Sokrates starts to lose the crowd’s attention, you break it down for them. Kleon has lied to get the votes needed to attack Mytilene. After the speech you can tell Sokrates “I hope so” or “It did seem to work,” concerning the crowd’s ability to deny the truth.
The Knights
- Recommended Level: 41
- Prerequisite: Complete Unearthing the Truth and A-Musing Tale
- Unlocks: We Will Rise
- Story: With the play complete and the people aware of Kleon’s plans for Mytilene, you return to Sokrates to find out what the next step is.
Return to Sokrates
Attika: Greater Athens
When you have completed Unearthing the Truth and A-Musing Tale, return to Perikles’s residence (1) and talk to Sokrates in the meeting room.
Conversation with Sokrates
Sokrates, Aristophanes, and Barnabas are at the meeting. Aristophanes boasts about how well the play went, stating that Kleon has lost much of his popularity. Sokrates says Kleon’s been spotted heading to Amphipolis to redeem himself. A civilian enters the room and tells you that Brasidas lives and is in Amphipolis preparing for battle. Sokrates asks what you are going to do. You should reply “I’m going to help Brasidas.” No matter your answer, you will find Brasidas and Kleon in Amphipolis in the next quest.
