Assassin's Creed Odyssey eGuide Odyssey Main Quests Chapter 8: Attika

Uprising

Doing Time

  • Recommended Level: 40
  • Prerequisite: Complete The Battle of Pylos
  • Unlocks: The Resistance
  • Story: After the confrontation at Pylos with Deimos, you were imprisoned in an Athenian jail. However, before even attempting to escape, you have some important things to say to your captors.

Talk to Deimos

Attika: Greater Athens

Conversation with Deimos

The decision to not help lift the tree off Deimos at the Battle of Pylos actually works in your favor. You come to in a prison cell in Athens, and Deimos is waiting at the bars to talk to you. Deimos calls you cold-blooded for not helping with the tree at the battle but says “I would have done the same thing.” Deimos adds “It’s not the first time you cast me away to die.” Deimos asks to be convinced of the cult’s manipulation.

Deimos first asks this specific question. “Why was I abandoned that night on the mountain?” Your first answer should be “It was the prophecy.” The other two options (“We didn’t abandon you” or “It was the Cult’s fault”) may not lead you to enough remaining good options to win Deimos over. This answer makes you reveal the Pythia’s prophecy and how the Spartan ephors went along with it. Deimos was too young to know this. And when you tie that into the cult by saying “You and I both know who feeds the Pythia her words,” Deimos acknowledges this remark and is listening now.

Deimos now questions the prophecy and why it would give such a terrible sentence to a baby. You should respond “The prophecy said you’d doom Sparta.” It’s not the obvious choice, as these two replies are options as well: “The cult wanted you” and “The prophecy said you were weak.” But now you actually say “The Pythia said you were going to bring Sparta to greatness or to its downfall. Waiting for the outcome was too big a risk.”

Deimos mentions being let go by the family. You tell him “You have no idea what happened on that mountain.” Now you have the chance to say, “Our mother searched for you.” Select that one to stay on target. The other two selections are: “I wanted to save you” and “Our father stood for Sparta.” Now, you tell Deimos that Myrrine went after her baby.

Deimos asks you what Myrrine found at the bottom of the mountain. You can answer either “She thought you were dead” or “The cult targeted our family.” Either of these will work, but each leads off to a unique final question. “The cult stole you” is the third choice, but that is just not going to convince Deimos.

She thought you were dead

If you chose this option, Deimos wonders what makes you the authority on being thrown off a cliff, and then your next answer will be “I was thrown off, too.” Don’t say either of the remaining options: “We were both lied to” or “The cult wants me, too.” Those are unconvincing answers.

The Cult targeted our family

If you chose this option then your next answer will be either “The cult wants to dominate the world” or, our favorite, “The cult wants to destroy our family.” Just don’t choose “The cult will dispose of you.”

A Sign It Worked

After your conversation, you get to see a sign if Deimos is starting to doubt the cult. Kleon approaches and tries to give orders. If Deimos starts in with “I am not your puppet” then you are on track.

A Sign It Didn’t

If you instead see Deimos take orders from Kleon and tell him to do what he wants with you, then you know that you’ve broken this storyline.

Conversation with Kleon

Kleon approaches your cell and antagonizes you with his murder of Perikles. You can say “You aren’t right, either” or “So, you’re a different kind of leader.” Either gets you where you’re going. Kleon comes clean about his wrongdoings and then sends two guards into the cell to kill you as he walks away from his troubles.

Defend Yourself against Kleon’s Men

This is a fight without weapons, and the two guards in the room with you were sporting and put their weapons down to have a fistfight. Hit one guard a few times and use the Overpower ability to unleash a beating on him. Turn to the next and repeat.

Sokrates and Barnabas come rushing in like they helped you escape. You direct the subject to getting Kleon. They give you your gear back and tell you to meet them at Perikles’s residence for a meeting.

Kleon the Everyman Revealed

Kleon the Everyman is now identified on the Cultist menu. He must be eliminated. When control returns to you, the quest has ended. The Resistance is next.

The Resistance

  • Recommended Level: 40
  • Prerequisite: Complete Doing Time
  • Unlocks: An Actor’s Life for Me and Unearthing the Truth
  • Story: Kleon reveals that he and the cult were responsible for Perikles’s death and that a ship is sailing to Mytilene to quell a rebellion against his rule. Those loyal to Perikles know his time is up.

Talk to Sokrates at Perikles’s Residence

Attika: Greater Athens

While at the prison (1), defeat the captain and loot the one treasure on top of the tower before you leave. Head southwest through town to reach Perikles’s residence (2). Take care of any unfinished business around the area or go directly to the meeting.

Finding the door that leads inside is not always easy, but you can simply climb into the open courtyard through the roof opening. Run into the back room, following the objective marker to join the meeting.

Conversation with Sokrates

Sokrates affectionately greets you at the door and leads you into the room, where Barnabas, Hippokrates, Alkibiades, and Herodotos are devising a plan to take down Kleon. You can ask them “Why do this in Perikles’s home?” before you choose “Let’s talk about your plan.” They believe that Kleon must be discredited before he’s taken out so that it does not disrupt the balance of peace. Aristophanes wants to use a play to do the discrediting. You can ask “What’s the play?” before you ask, “We can’t waste time.”

When the quest completes, both Sokrates and Aristophanes remain in the room. They both have gray quest giver markers over their heads. Sokrates needs help with Unearthing the Truth. And if you talk to Aristophanes he’ll get you to help with the play in An Actor’s Life for Me.
