Assassin’s Creed Odyssey begins during the battle of Thermopylae, where Spartan king Leonidas and a group of 300 Spartan soldiers held off 150,000 Persian soldiers (led by Xerxes), and did so for seven days until they were eventually overrun by a much larger army.
Battlefield Strategy
You are Leonidas. In this opening battle you’re introduced to some basic fighting moves. You’re taught how to perform light and heavy attacks and about filling the adrenaline meter to release special ability moves, such as the Bull Rush, Sparta Kick, Battlecry of Ares, or the Ring of Chaos.
The key to surviving this battle is run through the battling forces to seek and destroy the three Persian leaders. They’re the ones with golden level icons above their heads. They are level 40. You are at level 42. Each is marked with an objective icon to help you find them. One at a time, pick them out, target them, and defeat them. Use the fantastic special ability attacks during this challenge while you have unlimited adrenaline to trigger them because normally these attacks would have a cooldown attached to their usage.
Once all three leaders are defeated, head toward the edge of the cliff to seek out the fourth and final target—also marked with an objective icon. When you get close to him, Leonidas rushes the Persian hero and together they fall over the cliff’s edge to a lower platform where they battle alone.
Defeating Kurush
During this battle, you are taught to lock on, dodge, extend your dodge, and break guard. Breaking guard is what allows you to force the opponent’s shield down. Your opponent’s shield will also come down following a successful heavy attack. As soon as the shield drops, follow up with quick light attacks and try to maneuver behind him with quick dodge rolls to get in a heavy attack before the shield is raised again. To speed things up, use the special abilities as they become available, but note that adrenaline is not unlimited anymore and is replenished by hitting your opponent.
