Case 7-2: The Only Lead

Construct two new spiked bats on your way out of the Safe House, then take the restroom shortcut to Palisades Mall.

Mix up some juice drinks at the grotto and grab the chain saw from behind the bar, carrying it through Yucatan Casino and in stalling it onto Chuck’s motorbike at the Combo Bay as you did before.

Motor into the Underground, following the guide arrow toward your objective. Look for a flashing red light on the tunnel’s inside wall near a security gate—this is where you need to go.

Tip

If you wish to save T.K. and need some Zombrex, cruise up the ramp to the west of the security gate and find a dose of the drug just sitting on the high ground.

Park near the control panel to the right of the security gate without fear—the surrounding zombies are more interested in whatever lies beyond the gate than they are in devouring Chuck’s flesh. Hop off the bike and examine the panel to open the gate and advance.

MIND(LESS) CONTROLS

SPOILER: After opening the gate, Chuck is surprised when the surrounding zombies calm down and shuffle into the tunnel beyond, seemingly drawn by some mysterious force. Unhindered by the undead, Chuck cautiously follows suit.

SPOILER : The tunnel leads to a large warehouse with a strange object affixed to the ceiling. The gas seems to be coming from in here!

SPOILER: Chuck isn’t the only air-breather down here; he spies a group of armed mercenaries walking along an elevated catwalk. Just what the heck is going on?

SPOILER : Soon, a horrible, high-pitched noise rings out. The surrounding zombies react badly—within moments, all of their heads begin to explode in a massive shower of gore, freeing queens that begin madly buzzing about.

Even Chuck is forced to cover his ears at the unnatural sound, but fortunately, his head remains intact.

When the noise finally subsides, Chuck watches in awe as the queens obediently fly into the giant object affixed to the ceiling.

Before Chuck can process what’s happening, the mercenaries catch sight of him and open fire. It’s fight or flight time, and Chuck Greene never runs from a good fight!

FRANTIC FIREFIGHT

You can’t do much against the mercenaries from the low ground. Turn left and sprint for some stairs that lead up to the catwalk.

Dodge Roll your way toward the mercs, beating each one senseless with your trusty spiked bat. Their assault rifle fire is as you’ve come to expect: rapid but weak. You should have little trouble securing the warehouse.

Tip

Drop from the catwalk if you need to consume food; it’s safer down below.

After neutralizing the mercenaries, chow down on their food to heal up, and feel free to load up on guns and other weapons if you like. (By climbing up to the ceiling vents, you can obtain a hidden chain saw and broadsword.)

When you’re ready, follow the guide arrow as it leads you through a circular tunnel, and examine the control panel on the wall beyond to open the nearby door.

LAB RATS

SPOILER : The door leads to a secret lab. Chuck eavesdrops on two lab technicians who are proudly discussing how well things are going with their “tests” in Fortune City. Far from amused, Chuck angrily calls out to the men, who unexpectedly produce handguns and open fire.

You’ll likely eat a few bullets at first, as the men have the drop on you. Immediately Dodge Roll toward them, then beat them senseless with your spiked bat. These two pip-squeaks are no match for the wrath of Chuck Greene!

SPOILER :While accessing the men's laptio computer, Chuck discovers the true source of the outbreak; It was the work of the pharmaceutical giant, Phenotrans!

Chuck grabs the laptop, along with the nearby tranceiver, and also swipes an elevator access card off one of the men. If Rebecca thought she had a story before, she's going to flip when she sees this!
