The Toy Box is the place where you can let your creativity run wild. At the beginning of the game, you start off with only a few toys. However, you can collect many more toys as you play through the game.
Unlocking Toys in the Play Sets
One of the best ways to unlock toys for the Toy Box is to play through the Play Sets. Each Play Set has a number of types of toys themed to that Play Set that you can then take into the Toy Box once you unlock them. There are several ways to unlock toys. First, as you are playing in a Play Set, look for green capsules—these contain toys for the Toy Box. (The red capsules have toys that remain in the Play Set.) Green capsules are rarer than red capsules, so stay on the lookout for them while in the Play Sets.
Another way to unlock toys is through the Character Chests. These also appear in the Play Set. However, unlike the green capsules, the Character Chests require a specific character to unlock them. A picture of the specific character appears on the chest. Switch to that character to unlock the chest and unlock toys as well.
While exploring a Play Set, be sure to look for large Vaults. These look like large Character Chests, however you need all of the characters from the Play Set in order to open one of these Vaults. For example, in the Pirates of the Caribbean Play Set, you not only need Captain Jack Sparrow, but also Barbossa and Davy Jones. Opening these Vaults unlocks an entire Toy Box world as well as several different toys for all Toy Boxes. As you can see, it is important to have all the characters if you want to get all of the toys.
The Disney Infinity Vault
All of the toys unlocked in the Play Sets are themed or related to the specific Play Sets. However, there are also a great number of other toys that can be unlocked from within the Toy Box itself. These can be unlocked at the Disney Infinity Vault, which can be accessed through the Pause menu while in a Toy Box or at the Disney Infinity Hub by stepping on the yellow button. The Vault is like a game of chance. It offers 16 different toys or toy packs. You then spend Spins for a chance to randomly unlock one of the 16. If you don’t get what you want, you can spend another Spin to get one of the remaining 15 toys. You can also shuffle the Vault to randomly get a new set of 16 toys to spin for. Some of the toys have a yellow background. That indicates that you not only get the toy shown, but also some bonus toys as well. For packs, select the toy in the Vault to see what the pack contains. Most packs consist of two or more townspeople, or groups of plants or decorations.
Spins are the currency you use in the Vault to unlock the toys. There are several ways to get Spins.
- Collect them in the Toy Box Launch where they are inside green capsules. Look for these capsules hidden in clusters of crates and barrels.
- Complete the Mastery Adventures. You get a Spin once you complete each of these for the first time.
- Earn medals in the Adventures and Character Adventures. You get a Spin for earning each medal for the first time. Therefore, you can get three Spins for each Adventure—one each for bronze, silver, and gold.
- Level up your characters. Each time you collect enough Sparks to level up a character, you get another Spin. You can level them up in the Toy Box or in the Play Sets. The Spins can only be used in the Toy Box though.
