The green compass arrow will help guide you to the top of the volcano. Hamm will help lead you by rocket boosting ahead of you—who says pigs can’t fly! If you get lost and backtrack Hamm will always keep pace with you to show you the next spot you are supposed to reach. You’re free to explore this area as much as you want, but it will be easier once you complete the next task and get a few new toys.
There are plenty of interesting geological features of Goo Valley and your first encounter will be with a river of Purple Goo. These shallow streams of goo won’t hurt you, and the purple version will shrink you. Becoming tiny can be very useful to sneak into small spaces like the little alcove with a red capsule containing the Pricklepants Wall.
Cross the Purple Goo and the next pool you encounter is filled with Green Goo that has the opposite effect, enlarging you about three times your normal size. The size increase from Green Goo can allow you to reach higher ledges you couldn’t reach in your normal size. Continue to follow Hamm by climbing up a high ledge you can’t reach in your normal state.
Jump down a series of ledges and you will spot Hamm near the purple pool below. Hamm will quickly leap to a ledge to the left and you have to figure out how to follow him up that high ledge.
The Purple Goo won’t help as it will make you smaller and there is no green stream to bathe in. The important lesson you will quickly learn is that the glowing fruit from the trees has the same properties as the corresponding colored goo. Pick up a Green Goo fruit and toss it at the pumpkin-like thing at the bottom of that high ledge. The orange spotted species will get large and make the perfect stepping stone to reach the hand hold above.
Follow the pig by leaping across a series of ledges over a purple stream of goo.
Hamm will boost up on a high ledge, leaving you to figure out how to get up there. Pick up the pumpkin-like critter and place it in the depression in the dirt under the ledge. Grab a nearby Green Goo fruit and hit the pumpkin critter to make it large enough to jump on and reach the ledge above.
