Conflict is an essential part of any game, and in Disney Infinity it can take place on land, air, or sea. Each character has his or her own attacks, but these are further enhanced by Tools, Packs, and Vehicles. There are tons of variations, but here are a few tips to keep in mind when battling your way to victory.
On Foot
Characters like The Incredibles have unique superpowers that give them a big advantage in hand-to-hand combat, but most characters share some common moves. One move that is not very obvious is the ground slam, where a character jumps and attacks. This is useful when surrounded by enemies as it lifts your character out of danger for a second and delivers an attack with a small area of effect. On the other end of the spectrum is the defensive ability to block with a simple button press. This is often overlooked as players try to overpower enemies with combos, but it is probably one of the best options in a fight. Most attacks can be blocked, and while this doesn’t get you any closer to defeating your enemy, it can set your enemy up to drop his or her guard. By blocking or absorbing an attack, it can create an opening for you to counter or avoid getting knocked out of range. This is a fallback move, so whenever you are not sure what to do in battle—block!
Cars
There are lots of options for vehicular combat, especially with the cars that have built-in guns. Also, vehicles from the Cars Play Set have a large variety of weapons including machine guns, mines, and missiles that only appear after they are unlocked from side missions and purchased. All of these weapons are great for knocking the competition out of a race or destroying objects. Even without weapons, there is an overlooked ability for Cars characters to bump into other vehicles and knock them off balance. This isn’t as powerful as a full-out weapon attack, but a hard hit could give the edge in a race.
Shooting
Numerous types of projectiles range from Toilet Paper Launchers to Tomahawks, but they are controlled in the same way. Gun-like toys can be fired from the hip and shot in the general direction the character is pointing. With enough firing of the toy, it will spread enough ammo to take out most targets. However, if you need precision, you can enter a zoomed in mode where you can place the aiming cursor over what you want to hit. The important thing to remember is that while the gun is locked in one position, you can still run and gun, allowing you to move quickly with the gun focused on a single point. This technique comes in handy when trying to shoot specific targets during Challenges. The Lone Ranger features some special projectile properties, because the shots all ricochet off of a target. Essentially a single shot can bounce and hit many targets, opening up lots of tricky shooting.
Big Guns
Many of the larger guns like the Gattling guns and cannons will change the perspective to first person. These powerful weapons can cover great distance, but they must be adjusted for height to lob and launch ammunition to reach the targets. Cannons are extremely damaging, but they track and move very slowly and have a slower rate of fire than most other guns. These are best for large and tough targets, otherwise use a Gattling gun to shoot lots of ammunition to track smaller and quicker targets.
On the Open Seas
Your main ship from the Pirates Play Set has several types of cannons to take out enemies. There is a lot of strategy in choosing what type of cannon due to their firing rate, range, and damage capabilities. Another factor is whether you fire the guns from the helm, shoot the side cannons from a few views, or if you want to manually use the cannon to personally target and fire away on ships. The other important option is that the Broadside cannons can fire a single shot if you press the fire button quickly. But if it is held to charge the cannons, several of them will fire at the same time. All of these options depend on the type and amount of ships that you are battling, but in a large sea battle it is probably best to stick to the helm and blast with full cannon fire when you can hit with all your cannons.
In addition to the variety of cannons, there are many power-ups that can speed up your ship, turn the sea against foes, and even summon the Kraken. Only a single power-up can be active at one time and each has a charge/recharge time before it can be used. These powerful weapons can quickly sink a single ship and can effectively turn the tide of battle.
Finish Them
Many enemies will fall down after taking some damage, but that doesn’t mean they are defeated. A lot of them can be hit while they are down or trying to get up, so make sure to finish off a single enemy. Quickly switching enemies is a good tactic when you are surrounded, but it is always a good idea to reduce the number of foes you face as soon as possible.
