Disney Infinity 2014 Revised Edition eGuide Game Basics

Moves/Movement

People

There are a large number of characters to play with in this game, and fortunately they all move in a similar fashion. You use one stick to move and the other to look around for all human and super-human characters. You also use the same buttons to jump, block, dodge, and activate the character’s “powers”, however each character from a Play Set is unique and has his or her own powers and methods of attack. They do all share a few common movements that are essential to platforming, as explained here.

Double Jump

The first common technique is the double jump, and while it is easy to do, there is more to it than merely pressing a button twice. Double jumps will allow you to jump higher, but they can also allow you to jump longer. The second jump can be done to extend the distance you cover, allowing you to jump across far ledges and buildings.

Climbing

Most of the platforming in the game will include plenty of climbing. This skill is easy to perform, but it can be tricky to know where you can actually climb. Always look for a ledge, edge, or ridge that has a yellow glow, which indicates you can grab on to it. Once you are hanging, there are a lot of options including jumping up or over to another grapple point, jumping down or off the structure, or following the hand hold to maneuver around the edge. Holding on to an edge and running or moving hand-over-hand is an important technique to get to through some tricky spots.

There are also other objects that can be climbed in various Play Sets such as poles, ropes, and drain pipes. These objects aren’t highlighted in yellow all the time, but their narrow shape should give you a good idea that they are something to try out.

Dodge/Charge/Roll

Several characters have the ability to move in a quick fashion that can be used for defense or offense. A roll is a great way to dodge an attack (by holding block and pressing the control stick) and to maneuver when there is a lot of action on screen at once. Also available is a charge move (done by pressing the normal attack button) that can be used to cover ground quickly or simply to move faster or to avoid a bad situation. There are also characters like the ones from Monsters University that can use a charging move to break objects or stun enemies.
