The First Piece of the Krakens Bane

De First Piece O’ De Bane

  • Mission Giver: Tia Dalma
  • Type: Platforming
  • Reward: None

The five pieces of the Kraken’s Bane is your only hope to defeat Davy Jones. Now that Tia Dalma is satisfied with your efforts, she tells you that the first piece is located in the ruins and the compass will guide you there. Jump down from her tree house and hop back in the dinghy. Tia has raised a water gate that grants access to the ruins and it’s time to row, row, row your boat to check them out.

As you sail through the bayou, shoot the floating debris and blow up the bomb-chucking turtles as you go.

Dock the boat and go up the ramp or the nearby ladder to the ridge above. There is a lady here offering the Missin’ Me Sister side mission as well as a gate that requires pressing a hidden button to gain access.

Drop the lady off by her sister and climb the snake rope near the gate right next to the blue tutorial capsule. At the top of that ridge is an IN button that opens the gate below. There is a bunch of booty in the little cave you just unlocked as well as the El Caleuche Rear Hull.

Back on the trail of the first Bane piece, go into the temple ruins and wipe out several swordsmen and a bomb-throwing turtle. You are safe from the bombs as long as you stay under the roof of the ruins and that is a great spot to wipe out the swordsmen. When they are gone, block any incoming explosives until you wall jump up to the turtle and take it down.

Run down a long ramp and break out the Flintlock Pistol to shoot a few enemies in the distance. The gun is a great weapon at long range, but you have to be pretty quick on the draw or the swordsman will charge you and cut you down. There is another bombable lock you can’t open in this area, but continue your journey under the ruins.

Welcome to your first puzzle! There is a large statue in the center of this area that must be rotated into the proper position to get to the piece of the Bane at the top. Standing on the pads placed around this statue will rotate its sections. To solve the puzzle, you have to notice which sections move as you step on each pad.

The pad in front of the statue rotates the top two segments counterclockwise 90 degrees.

Jump up a few ledges and slide across a line to get to the second pad that spins the entire statue counterclockwise.

The third pad on the left (from where you first entered) rotates the bottom two segments counterclockwise 90 degrees.

Now that you know how the pads move the statue, the first objective is to line up the statue so all the faces are aligned. This can be done by getting two pieces correct and then spinning those two in order to line up with the third. Start by trying to line up the bottom and middle pieces by repeatedly stepping on the center pad.

With the bottom two pieces aligned, go to the pad on the left and turn both of these pieces until they line up with the top.

After all pieces are lined up, go to the pad on the right across the wire and keep turning it until the entire statue is in the correct position.

The spherical top of the statue will blow apart, revealing the first piece of the Kraken’s Bane. The faces of the statue will act as ledges you can climb to reach it.
