Each Play Set has a variety of missions to keep you busy. There are missions that tell a story or provide optional side quests, and even repeatable missions. A blue exclamation mark over a character denotes that he or she has a mission to discuss with you. Also, the character sends out a blue beacon above that can be seen from far away.
Main Missions
These are the primary quests where you will encounter many familiar characters from that Play Set’s world. The story missions are considered Main Missions, as they complete an adventure centered around each unique world. All of the Main Missions combine to tell a complete tale from start to finish, although the story can have several branching elements. This means that there can be several Main Missions going on at any given moment, but the main story leads to the same conclusion.
Side Missions
Side Missions are usually optional tasks that can be done to enhance the journey. Beyond the obvious fun of completing them, there are often rewards that make it well worth your time to go through each one. These missions can be as quick as a single action or extend throughout the entire adventure. Like the Main Missions, these are given by someone with a blue exclamation mark and are sometimes extra missions given by primary characters, or new missions from general NPCs.
“Hidden” Missions
These special type of Alert Missions are almost hidden because they are not explicitly listed in the mission log. These are not necessarily intended to be “secrets”, and they may pop up as a message on screen, but they’re easy to overlook or forget about. This includes missions such as the pennant collection in Monsters University and locating very elusive totems in Lone Ranger.
Alert Missions
Many of these missions are repeatable short quests that can appear at various times in an adventure. Generally they are simple tasks, like taking out some enemies or towing a car.
Challenge Missions
Challenges are unlocked as you complete certain tasks or missions in the Play Sets. They give off a yellow beacon, but the beacon will not appear if you are not using the specific character required. If you don’t have that character active, the Challenge location is just a flat circle on the ground with that character’s picture on it. Most of the missions are meant for all characters of that Play Set, but several are specific to a character. These can be played many times and have three levels of difficulty: easy, medium, and hard. They are a great diversion from the main story or perfect places to hone your skills for multiplayer games.
