Toy Box and Toy Box Worlds can be confusing. Toy Box is the mode of play in Disney Infinity where you can create your own worlds. These worlds are called Toy Boxes or collectively as Toy Box Worlds. Some of them, such as the Toy Box Launch, are available right from the start. Others must be unlocked. This section covers each of these Toy Box Worlds and how to unlock them, if necessary. You can create and use all the toys you have collected or unlocked in each of these Toy Box Worlds.
Captain Jack Sparrow was kind enough to take us on a tour of the Toy Box Worlds along with Dumbo the Flying Elephant (which is one of the rare Power Discs in the first wave).
Basic Toy Box Worlds
These Toy Box Worlds are all created using the Fairytale Kingdom theme and are fairly open, so you can start building right away without too much effort.
Empty Toy Box
This is one of the Toy Box Worlds available right at the start of the game. It is just a square of flat ground. You can use it for a small world or just use it as a starting block for an entire world of your own. The possibilities are endless.
Basic Toy Box
To unlock this Toy Box World, you must find a special green capsule in the Toy Box Launch world. It is located down on a small ledge between the castle and the race track. If you do not have an air vehicle, you can drop down to this ledge. Then, since you can’t climb back up, go to the Pause menu and select “Reset Gameplay” to return your character to a safe location.
This world is flat and already has edges along with a few plants. This is a good place to start your first world of your own when you only have a limited number of toys with which to begin building. However, as you get more and more toys, you will probably want to use the Empty Toy Box instead, since it is easier to expand.
Rolling Hills
Take an air vehicle, or use Spark mode, to get to the small floating island on the side of the mainland near the River Gazebo where the Disney Infinity Hub is located. Once you get the green capsule, you unlock the Rolling Hills world.
Larger than most of the other basic Toy Box Worlds, Rolling Hills has no finished edges and has slopes that raise the land towards the center. Play around in this world to get a feel for how to create hills and other raised terrain so that it looks natural. This is a fun place to build a race track or some caves for others to explore.
World of Walkways
The green capsule that unlocks this world is on a small floating island high above the Toy Box Launch world on the opposite side of the mainland from the Rolling Hills green capsule. Again, use an air vehicle or Spark mode to get there.
This world contains floating islands connected by walking paths and bridges. Use this world for paintball matches or horse races. It also has some larger islands on which you can easily expand. Again, this is a good place to explore to see how the designers connect larger land masses together.
The Play Set Toy Box Worlds
Each Play Set has a Toy Box World that you can unlock. Look for a large Vault in each Play Set. In order to open these Vaults, you need all of the characters for that Play Set. Use each character to open one of the locks. Then when the Vault is opened, you not only are rewarded with lots of toys, but also an entire Toy Box World themed after that Play Set.
In addition to providing pre-built Toy Boxes, these worlds are already themed. Take some time to study how the designers built them by taking a character with a Magic Wand and selecting different features. By studying and exploring these worlds, you can learn a lot about how to make a Toy Box World look really cool so you can impress your friends.
Metroville Toy Box
This Toy Box World is themed after The Incredibles Play Set. It features a city with tall buildings and a small island connected to the mainland by a road bridge. Explore it to learn how to build cities or just use the pre-built city for your own world.
Monsters University Toy Box
Themed after Monsters University, this world has a hedge around its border, a few buildings, and even a clock tower. There is still some open ground on which to build even more.
Pirates of the Caribbean Toy Box
Ahoy there matey! This tropical island comes complete with a shipwreck, a small town, and even some small islands to which you can build bridges or pathways. Observe how to build waterfalls and streams so they appear natural and try building a treasure grotto under the ground, along with a cave that leads down to the gold and jewels. Maybe even put some pirate enemies to guard the treasure.
Radiator Springs Toy Box
Get ready race fans. This Cars-themed world comes complete with an awesome race track that covers most of the world. This is a good place to see how to build a great race track of your own and then theme it with landmarks and other features to make it aesthetically pleasing—or are they just obstacles you need to avoid hitting while at high speed? Once you unlock this world, be sure to invite your friends over for a race.
Colby Toy Box
Themed after the Lone Ranger Play Set, Colby has a southwestern desert feel with tall mesas, canyons, tepee villages, and much more. This world has a lot of possibilities for making shooting games where players ride horses and can use the canyons for cover or to try to lose a pursuer. Or modernize it by building a race track across the tops of the mesas with some half loops that lead down to the desert floor below.
Toy Story Toy Box
This outer spaced themed Toy Box is a great area to build adventures about flying around its vast landscape and floating platforms. It also features some fun caverns that are perfect for setting up a race. The truly unique aspect of this Toy Box is the mountain that oozes purple and green Goo. These special pools can shrink or enlarge anything that that they touch, and it can add a whole new physical dimension to your creations.
