When six of the best racing cars in the world are competing in a five-lap race, you know it will be tough to win. The good and bad thing about this race is that any car can catch up to first place. There are enough variations from car crashes, vehicle bashing, and great drifting or turbo usage that almost any car can win from any position. This means don’t give up hope if you fall several spots back. Simply try to always improve your position. The best thing about holding first place is that there are not a lot of distractions. When the track is open, there are lots of options to grab turbo boosting cans.
If the other racers start to pack together, look for alternate routes—not simply to lower your track time, but to break away from the bunch. The other racers are pretty adept at smashing into you, and that could easily cause a loss of one or two places. There are several sections like this plateau that can shave off a bit of time, but more importantly it can allow you a way to avoid the crowd.
Experience on the track is invaluable because it teaches when to use a turbo to maximize speed and when to coast a bit to slow down enough to grab turbo boosting cans. For example, it can be a good idea to boost when there is a long stretch of track, but hitting the top of the hill at top speed will send your car too high in the air, preventing you from being able to grab all the turbo cans as you land.
Of course drifting is important in this race and you use it whenever you can, but that doesn’t mean holding it so that you slow down or crash. There are a few very tight turns such as this that requires heavy drifting to keep top speed in the turns. Right before this, spot another sharp turn and several turbo tanks. While it is good to max out the turbo meter, it is a waste to not use it whenever possible.
