Race The King
- Mission Giver: Dark Grey Car (green picture in mission list)
- Type: Race
- Rewards: 300 Coins / 75 Sparks
It seems that The King helped Luigi with the supplies for the track and now that it is finished he is looking for someone to race. Take up the challenge and try out the first real race on the new track. Start out with a full turbo boost and make sure to drift into each corner. This track is a lot more complex than previous ones and there are a lot more alternate routes as well as obstacles. While the obstacles are not that hard to avoid, hitting them will cost precious time. Avoid the orange-and-yellow barrels or they will explode and set you back a bit. Also, make sure to avoid or simply jump over the blue-and-white-striped rails.
Drifting and possibly doing tricks in the air can fill your turbo meter, but make sure to grab the fuel cans that can help top off your turbo quickly.
There are lots of options to take advantage of on this course, but don’t expect them to simply be short cuts. Following the main track is faster than going through the dirt, but with a good boost you can cut off sections of the track and save time. Also, there are lots of traffic blockages with white-and-orange-striped planks. These can be smashed through to open a new route. However, taking an alternate path is not a guarantee that it is quicker than following the track.
What makes the optional paths attractive is when it has turbo cans! The tricky path to the left has a lot of turbo refilling cans, but if your turbo meter is already full it would be better off to use the boost on the long straightaway and cover more ground quickly and safely.

Poor Luigi. It seems nobody is impressed with his track. He wants his track to be numero uno, not just “fine”. Luigi has an idea rumbling under his hood to reverse the track to create The Backwards Track Race. This is the same track you raced The King, but driving on it backwards opens up some new options. It’s important to note that you don’t have to win the race; coming in second will still complete the mission.
There are several paths to take, but don’t always be swayed by a bunch of turbo cans. The path might be tempting, but only if you can navigate it well. Otherwise it is best to stick to the track and drift to build up the turbo meter.
Dirt path shortcuts are great only if you have the speed (turbo boost) to make up for the rough surface that slows you down. Going through these areas without a boost can actually slow you down.
