Private Actions

Private Actions return in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. These character-based events serve to provide personal insight into the party members’ backstories. Additionally, the more Private Actions that you view increases the affinity between characters. This hidden affinity value affects certain events in the game, most notably the ending. The way you respond to multiple choice Private Actions also affects the affinity value. For instance, if you (as Fidel) respond positively to one of the other party members’ inquisitions, the affinity between Fidel and said party member increases. You can further manipulate this value with potions and by other means. For details, see the Multiple Endings chapter in this guide following the main story walkthrough.

There are two types of Private Actions: triggered ones and random ones. Triggered Private Actions are initiated in specific spots in towns and on the Charles D. Goale. Random Private Actions are a separate series of Private Actions that are seemingly randomly generated by traveling around the world (and can also be triggered in towns when there are no normal Private Action events outstanding). Private Actions and random Private Actions are loosely connected. Some Private Actions unlock when prerequisite random Private Actions are triggered, and vice versa. For example, if you trigger the random Private Action called “Victor on Love,” it unlocks a hidden normal Private Action called “Enter a Mysterious Woman” (Chapter 7).

When a set of normal Private Actions is available in the current area, a whistle icon displays on the map. Stepping onto the whistle starts the Private Actions event.

A set of stars in the lower-right side of the screen appears, indicating the currently available Private Actions that can be triggered in the current area.

When all of the stars are filled out, stepping on the whistle icon again ends the Private Actions event. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that all of the current Private Actions are exhausted. More may be queued up depending on how far along into the story you are and how many you’ve viewed from the current area. To check for more, you can exit the area (or enter a nearby inn), then re-enter the area to check for the whistle icon on the map.

If you find yourself unable to trigger any of the normal Private Actions in the data tables at the end of this chapter, you can unlock them by viewing random Private Actions at the points designated in the following maps, or by making further progress through the main storyline.
