Halo Wars 2 eGuide Getting Started

Other Tips and Tactics

  • Move infantry units into the cover provided by garrisons whenever possible. Cover increases their durability, line of sight, and range.
  • Remember that you can hold down the Fast Camera button (LB on the Xbox One controller) to speed up your camera moves. Use this regularly—sometimes every second counts!
  • Expert players should take advantage of the D-Pad controls that let you fast-jump to bases, armies, and “alerts” (hot spots) instantly.
  • Good players must multitask. Don’t be afraid to leave troops to fight on their own in battle for brief periods while you check on situations elsewhere. Unattended units can “think” with some intelligence.
  • Upgrading your base level is almost always advantageous. You can increase the number of slots for facilities and raise your Tech Level, which allows you to build more powerful units.
  • Your Armory offers several extremely useful upgrades. The best, in our opinion, may be Reinforcements I/II/III, which raise your Population cap by 20 with each upgrade.
  • Never pass up the chance to capture a Power Node. The increased Power income is significant, making it possible to build fewer Generators and more Supply Pads to balance out your resource inflow.
  • Fill every Turret slot you find on a map. Turrets are relatively inexpensive yet provide remarkably durable defense capabilities. Upgrading Turrets is usually worth the price, but make sure you match the upgrade (Anti-Air, Anti-Infantry, Anti-Vehicle) to the primary threat you face at that map point.
  • Minibases are usually worth the cost too. They can give you the production boost you need, and often let you crank out units closer to the battlefield.
  • Remember that shielded units regenerate their depleted shields automatically. If you break an enemy’s shield, don’t let up until you reduce his health bar some as well. Otherwise you’re wasting firepower.
  • Scorpions are awesome. Get to Tech Level 3 as soon as you can, then crank out these tanks from your Garage.
