Sometimes you come upon French and British forces that are engaged in battle. Help out by killing the leader of the enemy forces and then destroying their flag in the center of the battlefield.
If you’re worried about wading into the skirmish, use ranged weapons to pick off the captain while everyone else fights around them. This uses some of your ammo, but it’s much safer for people who aren’t comfortable in larger sword fights.
The flag is the easy part. It’s not usually defended, and you can take care of it before or after you eliminate the captain from the fight.
Don’t assume that everything fun to do is inside towns and cities. When you explore the deeper wilderness near frontier towns, you sometimes find Hunting Challenges. These small activities require you to hunt and take down multiple animals, all within a decent time limit. Once you’re done, you get rewarded with free cash.
Targets regenerate faster than normal, so the hunting is much faster and more effective than in the normal wilderness. You don’t get to keep the pelts that you turn in for the challenge, but you can still kill rare animals and then intentionally fail the challenge and skin them afterward. This isn’t useful for hares or deer, but it’s not a bad way to get extra black wolf pelts.
Talk to innkeepers to find out the locations of various supply camps around the world. They’re easy to loot once you get to the location. Fight through a moderately large group of guards, and take the chest. That’s all there is to these fast activities.
Look in the “Collectibles” chapter to find out where to go for this quest. You get it in Orenda and then must locate seven Native Pillars that are hidden in and around caves. These are climbing and exploration puzzles, and you play a minigame at the end to get special Totems.
Once you have them all, you return to Orenda for your prize.
Not every location is populated. There are dozens of islands to explore throughout the North Atlantic and the River Valley. Land your ship somewhere close to the islands and swim ashore to start exploring.
Damaged vessels are sometimes seen along coastlines or near islands. Something terrible happened to these ships, and their crew has abandoned the area. That creates an opportunity for Shay. Explore the area around the damaged vessel and hunt for collectible items; they’re often spread out over a wide area because of whatever calamity befell the ship.
Native Hills are found in areas of heavy wilderness. These areas take a fair amount of time to explore, so be patient when you find them and look around carefully to find a way to progress through them. There are often tough climbs, fallen trees, and extensive free running areas that you have to navigate before reaching the end of the hill.
Collectible items and Native Pillars are both a key part of most Native Hills. Be on the lookout for these useful items as you explore. It’s worth taking several extra minutes to get every item in the region so that you don’t have to come back later unless you’re in the mood to simply explore and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Ice Caves are wilderness locations that have extensive collectibles, but require a fair amount of time to explore. These are frequently paired with Native Totems, so you’re able to work on your Native Outfit quest, obtain other high-end collectibles, and explore all at the same time.
Look for a cave icon while traveling up to new locations that are in the colder, northern portion of the maps. These icons let you know that an Ice Cave is present in the area. Once you dock your ship, go into the wilderness and look for the cave’s entrance. Find it and go through the cave to get all of the treasure that’s there.
These are most lucrative after you have access to grenades. There are sometimes sections of these caves that you can’t explore without detonating a grenade to shatter walls of ice.
Your free running skills need to be at their best inside these caves. There are sometimes rather tricky climbs and jumps that may be difficult to see. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t access an item that appears on the map. Stop, look around and above your character, and then make a plan to reach the next portion of the cave. Slow and steady wins the race when it comes to cave exploration.
