Assassin's Creed Rogue Guide › Side Activities and Challenges

Fleet Missions

Late in Sequence 03, you unlock Fleet Missions. They’re started in your ship’s captain’s cabin or in forts and headquarters that you’ve taken over. Approach the map that is marked in these areas and use them to go into the Fleet Mission menu.

During these, Shay sends the ships that he’s captured out to earn money, collect rare items, and help the British win the war on the seas. You establish a fleet by boarding other vessels and choosing to “Add Them to Your Fleet” after you win the battle. At first, you can only have a few of these in your fleet, but grabbing more gives you the option to expand your docks. This costs more and more money as you get additional ships, but the cost of expanding your docks is reasonable, rather than something you have to save up money for.

Having a larger fleet allows you to send more ships on missions simultaneously. Although you can only expand your number of missions (and thus, trade routes) by completing the most advanced mission available, you’re still able to deploy ships along existing unlocked routes to get bonus cash and resources.

There are several types of cargo that your ships can carry: food, arms, troops, medical supplies, and spies. You sometimes gain these from working on your trade routes, but other times you have to gather a specific amount ahead of time and deliver them to your destination. All of this is shown in the Fleet Mission screen. If you are lacking on any resources, go through your trade routes and see which ones provide the resources that you need. Have your spare ships working constantly on these easy routes to keep your stockpile of goods as high aspossible.

Once you’ve directed a ship to start a mission, a timer starts before you find out if a fleet mission has been successful. Go ahead and leave the Fleet Mission screen while the timer counts down; it’ll keep going and let you continue with your own business.

If you don’t have a ship that is strong enough to succeed in the mission, go after the trade routes in that area and fight smaller battles to clear away the enemies. This raises the chance of success dramatically and is very useful when you don’t have heavier ships (like men-o’-wars) to power through the missions.

Smaller, faster vessels have shorter timers. It’s usually worthwhile to send the smallest ship that has enough cargo space to get the job done. Use your heavier vessels for clearing the way, and send your smaller ships to get the mission done quickly and efficiently.

All Fleet Missions can be replayed

for additional cash. The amounts aren’t very high once you’re in the late game, but earlier on they’re a solid way to give yourself more income. Send multiple ships at once to clear out multiple missions that have already been unlocked. You won’t get new achievements or challenges for doing this (it’s all about the money).

If you encounter a trade route that is too tough to take out with the ships you have at your disposal, just back out. Every time you go into the Trade Route screen, the battle is randomized. A fight against three men-o’-wars might become two brigs and a frigate the next time you come in.
