Sequence 04

Hide and Seek

Mission Overview

Optional Objectives

  • Find all the children without making a mistake.
  • Find all the children within four minutes.

Follow Ratonhnhaké:ton’s friends to the forest outside the settlement. After the cutscene, a game of hide and seek begins. To start the process of finding the children, press / to investigate the nearby clue. This reveals three separate (though overlapping) search zones. Scrutinizing each additional clue shrinks the search zone that it pertains to. An easy way to locate clues is to activate Eagle Vision, which makes it possible to espy their general location through solid objects and foliage. When a sufficient number of clues for a specific search zone have been found, the hiding children are highlighted on the mini-map as a waypoint.

Once Ratonhnhaké:ton has found his friends, travel to the waypoint marker to begin the next game; this time, it’s his turn to hide. Enter a hiding place far from your starting position before the time limit expires to advance the story. Return to the village. Run to the second longhouse and cut through it, pressing / rapidly when prompted to move the obstruction. Avoid flames: these will sap Ratonhnhaké:ton’s Life Bar in a heartbeat.

Interact with the door highlighted by a waypoint marker and, on discovering that it is blocked, run around to the right to get inside the longhouse. Approach the debris covering Kaniehtí:io and press / when directed to do so.

Hide and Seek: Solution

There are two Optional Objectives linked to the game that Ratonhnhaké:ton plays with his friends. If you wish to find them all on the first attempt, and within the time limit, use this annotated map.

Crouched by the cliff.

Inside a pile of branches.

Check this hiding place.

Feathers and Trees

Mission Overview

Optional Objectives

  • Do not touch the ground or water.
  • Find three more feathers.

Speak with Ratonhnhaké:ton’s friend to begin the Memory, then free run along the tree to jump to an adjoining branch. Climb into the V-shaped section just above, then tap / when the prompt appears to ascend.

After the cutscene in the upper branches, free run through the trees to reach the next waypoint marker. Note the appearance of a new Optional Objective.

Free running through trees is a little alien at first, as it’s harder to instinctively read the route ahead until you pick up on the distinct “visual language” of these lofty courses. Don’t worry: it becomes second nature with practice.

When you reach the V-shaped section pictured here, jump to the smaller branches to swing down to a branch closer to the ground.

The restriction on touching ground or water to complete the Optional Objective does not encompass stone areas that are part of the free run course; following the route marked here to reach the log in the river will not lead to failure. At the far side of the log, turn around and return to Kanen’tó:kon to help him up when he falls.

Follow the route shown here to reach a cutscene. While free running in trees, Ratonhnhaké:ton will automatically swing around the outside of a tree trunk to reach branches on the opposite side – as illustrated in this picture.

The penultimate section of the course leads you to a fallen tree, which can be used to reach the cliff face.

Finally, climb the rocks via the path shown here. Approach the nest and press / to interact with it. When play resumes, you can either collect additional feathers to satisfy the Optional Objective (see box-out), or run directly to the waypoint marker and speak with Kanen’tó:kon to complete the Memory.

Collecting Feathers

To complete a final Optional Objective, Ratonhnhaké:ton must collect three additional feathers. Two of these are automatically marked on the map; a third takes a little more investigation to locate.

From your starting position by the hiding place, climb the tree a few steps to the east to find the first feather.

Return to the hiding place where Ratonhnhaké:ton landed and climb the tree to the north.

From the hiding place, run to the northwest until you see the dead tree pictured here. The feather lies at the end of this short free run course.

Hunting Lessons & Something to Remember

Mission Overview

Optional Objectives (Hunting Lessons)

Optional Objectives (Something to Remember)

  • Hunt and skin three different types of animal.
  • Combine bait and a snare to catch an animal.
  • Air assassinate two animals.
  • Make no more than two collisions.

Hunting Lessons: As the first part of this Memory is a tutorial for basic hunting techniques, there is no need for additional assistance: just follow the onscreen instructions and prompts as they appear. When the time comes to hunt a deer, use Eagle Vision to find a clue within the green search area. Use the Stalking Zone to approach the animal without being detected, put bait within your place of concealment, then lie in wait and kill your prey when it moves within range.

After skinning the deer and retrieving the catch from the snares, three Optional Objectives appear. Though you only need to collect meat from five animals to complete the Memory, our advice here will focus on satisfying the secondary conditions. From your starting position by the snares, head south and approach the rock pictured here and use it as a starting point to free run through the trees.

From the trees, look for animals moving below. Creatures that Ratonhnhaké:ton can hunt are highlighted when they move within range for what is, in effect, an air assassination: tap / to jump down and kill them instantly. Repeat this feat to complete the related Optional Objective. Try to kill a different animal on the second occasion to work towards another challenge.

Catching a creature with bait and a snare is actually very easy. Place the snare first, then take a few steps back to throw bait on top of it. Quickly retreat to a nearby Stalking Zone to await the arrival of an animal. You may find that numerous animals will approach from a surprisingly large radius.

Ratonhnhaké:ton can only skin a maximum of five animals to satisfy the Optional Objectives, so you now have two remaining opportunities to complete the “hunt three types of animal” challenge. Start by using Eagle Vision to locate clues within the search zone. Examining these will highlight and identify an animal on the mini-map; if this isn’t the animal you seek, move on to the next clue. Once you have located a new variety of animal, approach it very carefully (ideally via Stalking Zones) until you move within range for a successful Bow kill.

With the hunt concluded, move to the waypoint marker. When the bear charges at Ratonhnhaké:ton, press the button prompts that appear onscreen to evade its attacks. You can then run out of the area marked by a red circle on the mini-map to escape it. Return to the village entrance to end the Memory.

Something to Remember: Enter the village and approach the Clan Mother’s longhouse. Speak to her outside, then walk to the waypoint. You must then use to move during the events that unfold. Unless you are blessed with swift reactions, conquering the Optional Objective will require that you take the time to familiarize yourself with the course. If you do not beat it on first attempt, you can always return to repeat this short Memory via the Replay function at a later date.
