Your weapons need ammo to be useful, but there is no lack of that stuff in this part of the world. You can find ammunition all over the place, and some of it is craftable as well.
Silent Arrows and Armor Piercing Arrows
Your Bow’s basic “ammunition” is Arrows. The standard Arrows that you find or craft throughout most of the game are classified as Silent Arrows. They won’t alert people unless someone is struck by them and survives long enough to sound the alarm.
Very late in the story, you upgrade to Armor Piercing Arrows that have similar properties to Silent Arrows but are able to do some actual damage to armored enemies (as long as the attack is fully charged).
Basic Arrow attacks are good against weak opponents. Aim for headshots, take out people quietly, and get the advantage against groups of enemies without having to take them on directly until you’ve thinned their numbers.
Fire and Napalm Arrows
Once you have the Oil Flask, you can start crafting Fire Arrows. These can be upgraded through skills to become Napalm Arrows, which are very deadly.
Both types of fiery Arrows are used to kill unarmored enemies even if you aren’t good at landing headshots. They’re most successful once combat has already been initiated, so you aren’t worrying about stealth. Instead of taking the time and risk to score headshots, you unleash Fire Arrows to get kills even from body shots.
These Arrows are very weak against Enforcers, Defenders, and all Deathless. However, these Arrows burn through cloth barricades, so they get you into a few special locations.
Grenade and Cluster Bomb Arrows
Grenade Arrows are incredibly powerful. You start using them as part of the story, as you’re passing through the Acropolis. Craft explosive Arrows and use them to kill Defenders, Enforcers, Deathless, and groups of weaker enemies who are standing too close together. Grenade Arrows also destroy metal barricades!
Poison and Death Cloud Arrows
You learn how to make Poison Arrows during your time in the Siberian Wilderness. They are automatically upgraded into Death Cloud Arrows if you invest in a skill of the same name. Both types of poisonous Arrows deal high damage over time and are amazingly lethal. Use them against Enforcers, Defenders, bears, and all Deathless, especially the heavier melee ones.
Poisonous Arrows are only weak against Fireflies. Those attackers have their own air circulators, so they won’t take any damage from poison.
Pistol Bullets and Hollow Points
Pistol ammo doesn’t get you amazing damage or stopping power. You mainly use your Pistols if ammo is low for other weaponry, or if you simply need a close-range weapon for a single kill and don’t want to, or can’t, use your Shotgun.
Hollow Point ammo is craftable if you invest a skill point into it. These shots drop light targets very quickly, so they’re often worthwhile as a backup during longer fights.
Shotgun Shells and Dragonfire Shells
Shotguns kill targets extremely well in close-quarters combat. Save your shells for these intense situations, or switch to Shotguns if someone charges you in melee during a bigger fight. The Dragonfire Shells require special crafting, but they’re very deadly and take out unarmored enemies without any delays or problems.
Rifle Ammo
You find Rifle ammo all over the place, and many of your opponents carry it too. There isn’t anything special that you need to worry about when you’re using your Rifles. They’re good, solid weapons that work for almost any occasion.
