Accompanied by Refia, the twins arrive at the port city of Saronia Harbor after an arduous trek across Icicle Ridge. It appears Refia has an uncle in town, and she bids the party farewell. Investigate Saronia
After the initial cutscene in Saronia, your task is to gather information about the port city by talking to the townsfolk (those who are marked with an purple exclamation point). To progress, you must talk to two locals up here. After you’ve conversed with them, take the exit through the southeast, down the stairs. This takes you to the Shanty Town, the city’s slums. There’s one more Lilikin to talk to here, which triggers a cutscene.
It seems that Saronia has joined the Federation and expects its citizens to help expand the Federation’s operations in order to raise their “civic rank.” Next, see what information you can obtain from the city’s thane by going up the stairs from the city’s center. Another cutscene plays out here atop of a castle bridge. Reynn presents the Cornelian seal, consequently attaining an audience with the thane.
Almost immediately, Refia senses something off with the thane. Her Uncle Takka has apparently been possessed by a Bahamutian soldier, and a battle commences. Since this mini-boss doesn’t have an apparent weakness or strength, the fight is rather straightforward.
Attack him with your strongest physical or magical attacks while healing up any damage taken. He does have a unique high-strength toppling attack called Tower Breaker, so you may need to apply a dose of wobblestopper to a stack in danger of toppling.
Once you’ve defeated your foe, you’re introduced to the Knight in the Golden Mask. In conventional villainous fashion, he fells the persistent Bahamutian soldier only to dramatically threaten the twins himself.
Fortunately, Sherlotta intervenes and rescues the Mirage Keepers. In the safety of Shanty Town, they discuss their options, and Refia suggests that their next destination be the Low Seas. It’s time to find a boat.
You can save your progress after this cutscene. You’re also notified of a new purchasable Champion Medal from The Girl Who Forgot Her Name.
When you’re back in control of the party, take a look around Shanty Town. There’s a treasure chest sitting on top of a wall near the west portion of the area. In Jiant form, open it up to obtain Occult Fan, Issue 2. As with all of the Occult Fan journals, this one hints at a secret somewhere surrounding Saronia.
Interestingly, there’s another related clue nearby in Shanty Town. To the wall left of where you picked up the Occult Fan issue, there’s a cryptic diagram depicting some seaweed with an arrow pointing to clamshells, and another arrow pointing to some fish. Remember this for later.
There’s nothing left to do here, so return to Saronia Harbor to close out this brief story chapter.
