Reynn and Lann proceed beyond Wellspring Woods into Bridge Overlook. As they take in the beautiful change of scenery, they notice a town in the distance across a lake. With impeccable timing, a train arrives. Unsure of their ultimate destination, they board the Cactuar Express and meet an eccentric and outgoing cactuar Mirage, who also happens to be the conductor. Defend Cornelia and Meet the Princess
Journey ahead toward the bridge in the distance to trigger a cutscene with the Cactuar Express, taking you to the town of Cornelia.
With little time for rest and relaxation, the twins are immediately thrust into conflict upon their arrival in Cornelia. An organization known as the Bahamutian Federation invades the town with an army of goblins.
Heroically, Lann charges into battle against the intruders. As the encounter begins, apparitional chains can be seen connecting the Mirages to an unknown source, which signifies a relationship link to their keeper. These linked Mirages cannot be imprismed until their keeper is defeated, so go ahead and slay them normally.
After you send the band of goblins packing, the twins are invited to Castle Cornelia, so climb the stairs and castle steps to have an audience with Cornelia’s princess. The gang meets Princess Sarah, who thanks the pair of heroes for their defense of the town. She continues to explain Cornelia’s dire situation with the hostile Bahamutian Federation, and in classic Final Fantasy fashion, she mentions a prophecy hinting at Reynn and Lann being Grymoire’s saviors.
For now, your primary concern is to muster up more power in the form of Mirages. Fortunately, you have a lead to go on: visit the Nether Nebula and investigate the Mirages present there.
From the castle, descend to the town of Cornelia. On your way down, there’s a treasure chest sitting on top of a roof just northwest of the central plaza. With your party leader in Jiant form, open the chest to obtain Occult Fan, Issue 1.
In the same plaza, there’s a Cornelian guard with a distinct question mark over his head. This means he has a side quest for you. Talk to him and accept the Best Helm in the Realm quest.
Continue on down Cornelia until you encounter a Gate, transporting the crew back to Nine Wood Hills for a brief spell. Tama explains one of the game’s fast-travel mechanics here. Every Grymoire location you visit contains a Gate that’s connected back to Nine Wood Hills, so if you ever need a break or need to restock on supplies, you can quickly transport back home through these Gates. Additionally, Serafie mentions the ability to access your Prism Case from any Gate you interact with.
After the text tutorials regarding Gates and the Adventure Log, continue to the bottom of Cornelia. Save your progress at the Save Crystal at the foot of the town’s steps. Before leaving the town, talk to the helpful Lilikin just east of the Save Crystal for tips on curing Poison. He also gives you a free antidote.
Now, leave town through the exit under the bridge to continue on to Chapter 3 of the story.
