Officers Phelps and Dunn ride patrol on a steamy L.A. night. Dunn can’t get his partner to talk about the war—Cole Phelps is a decorated hero, cited for valor on Okinawa where he won a Silver Star. Suddenly, Dunn spots Wendell Bowers, a bum who jumped parole. He tells Phelps to get after Bowers on foot while Dunn tries to cut him off with the car.

Pursue the suspect.
You start out on Main Street near 6th 
. Bowers sprints up an alley, so give chase using the controls indicated onscreen to run. When you reach the chain-link fence in the first alley, simply run directly into it—Phelps automatically scales low obstacles. Bowers takes a hard right just past the fence. If you lose sight of him, remember that he’s the red blip on your radar mini-map.
Officer Dunn drives into the alley up ahead and cuts off Bowers, but the suspect veers left and climbs a fire escape ladder. As with the fence earlier, just run directly at the ladder until Phelps grabs on and starts climbing. Follow Bowers all the way up to the roof.
Now chase Bowers across the roof to the drainpipe and follow as he shimmies up. If you get too close, he kicks you in the head! At the top, your suspect leaps off the next ledge onto a narrow section of roof below. Just run toward the gap and Phelps automatically leaps. Climb up to the next roof, then follow Bowers across another gap as he works his way right back toward Main Street where the chase started.
If you haven’t caught Bowers before you round the rooftop power shed, walk around the corner to avoid Bowers’ clothesline move. Then he squares up, ready to brawl.
Subdue Bowers.
Employ the same fighting controls used to subdue Errol Schroeder back in “Upon Reflection”. Note that this thug is a much tougher customer than Schroeder. Keep punching, ducking, and grappling until you finish him off. When the fight’s over, Dunn hustles Bowers into the paddy wagon and congratulates his partner for another job well done.
