Challenge: The Ultimate Play Through

After you’ve defeated Darkdeath Evilman, you unlock Rasetsu Mode at the Cheat Shop. By itself, Rasetsu Mode’s effects aren’t obvious, but you can really see it at work if you start messing around with the higher levels of the Stronger Enemies cheat. With Rasetsu Mode on, the old stat caps no longer apply; you can level items above 300, to a maximum of 999; you can get Aptitudes all the way to 300% via Reincarnation, if you choose to do so; and your new ceiling for HP and SP is 400 billion. That is not a typo.

There’s also another level at the Dimension Guide that you can only see with Rasetsu Mode on. The Tyrant Overlord is back, and he’s more powerful than ever.

Before you go running in to face Baal and cover yourself in glory, you have a shopping list to fill out.

First off, anyone you intend to send into this meat grinder needs to be level 9,999 with several dozen Reincarnations behind him or her and a Rank 40 level 999 weapon of your choice. Max out your character’s Aptitudes, pick up the extra Weapon Skills from the Item World, and get all your Special Skills up to level 255. Pass all the bills in the Dark Assembly to improve your character’s Move, Critical, Jump, Throw, and Counter stats, and pass all six possible bills in the Dark Assembly to give your weapons a +6 to their Range. This will cost about two billion HL.

Here’s the really difficult part: your characters need to have access to just about every damaging spell and Weapon Skill in the game. Whatever they can learn, they should, and you should carry backup weapons so you can change them out on the fly. That includes maxing out all Weapon Masteries.

For equipment, you want a Broken Cellphone, which can be stolen from Item Gods on the 100th floor of legendary Rank 39 to 40 weapons and armor; a Trapezohedron, the best Emblem in the game, which can be found on Item Gods in LoC Mode by creating an Item World with a legendary Arcadia; and a pair of Cosplay Cat Ears, which can be found in the same place as the Broken Cellphone and are inexplicably the best armor in the game when you get them to max level. Each of these items should also be level 999, naturally, with all six bills passed in the Item Assembly to improve their stats.

This is extremely time-consuming but worthwhile. With a legendary Rank 40 weapon and three legendary pieces of high-end equipment, plus whatever stats you can leech from farming Pringer Zs in Prinny Land and exploring the Item World in LoC Mode, you’re well on your way to the point where you can actually land a hit on Baal. His base stats are all around 500 million, so that’s the ballpark figure you’re aiming for, after buffs and Evilities, to be able to inflict any damage to him at all.

The final element of your equipment can take a while if you don’t get lucky. Using the Innocent Route in the Item World, subdue and collect Social Workers, Psychologists, Coffee Makers, Medicine Men, and Pharmacists. These Innocents all provide an increasing level of resistance to the five status ailments in the game. If you have all five Innocents at level 100 installed into your equipment, that character is completely immune to status ailments. This is time-consuming, but absolutely necessary due to one of Baal’s Evilities. T.O. Pandemic automatically inflicts all five status ailments on all active characters at the end of the enemy turn.

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find enough Innocents to immunize more than one character unless you get lucky, so anticipate that one of your characters is going in alone for the first couple of stages of this fight. A Lady Samurai with the Duelist Evility is an ideal choice for this, as her ATK goes up by 100% when she’s facing an enemy that’s unique on the field, and Baal is nothing if not unique. Your Lady Samurai should have high Weapon Mastery with several different weapons with knowledge of all eight Weapon Skills for each. Use the Dark Assembly to give your Lady Samurai Garungun’s Fabricated Setting Evility, so when and if Baal reduces your Samurai to 0 HP, you’ll pop back up instantly with a 30% stat boost. You can bring a healer for the first stage, but unless you can provide him or her with total status immunity, whoever it is will have to retreat into the base panel during stage 2 or get leveled by T.O. Pandemic. You can also have your Lady Samurai equip a Lollipop on every other turn, to regenerate her HP automatically at the end of the enemy turn.

A less ideal option is to give your characters a second Evility by getting them to a five-heart Likability rating with a Lantern. Reverse Ailment won’t keep your characters from getting put to Sleep, but it’ll turn the Poison damage into healing and the Depraved ailment into a 30% stat boost. You’ll only be able to act once every other turn, but the extra DEF and the passive healing will help to defray the damage from Baal’s attacks. It’s not as good as immunity, but it’s better than nothing if the Innocents are playing hard to get.

The fight with Tyrant Overlord Baal is six stages long. When he’s “killed” the first five times, he immediately returns to full health with a new second Evility. Winning the fight requires you to anticipate and counter that second Evility ahead of time.

Stage 1

The first hurdle to fighting Baal is getting into the fight at all. His second Evility, T.O. Force, causes any character who enters the fight to get smacked by a falling sword for a base amount of 99 billion, reduced by DEF. This is not hyperbole. That’s the number. If your characters can’t take that on the chin without flinching, you aren’t ready to fight Baal yet. Even at the Rasetsu Mode DEF cap, a character will still take about 9 billion damage from T.O. Force.

The second hurdle is his first Evility, T.O. Analyze. Skills can damage Baal only once before he becomes immune to them. This even includes basic attacks with a particular weapon, which is why your leading character has to know so many extra Skills and Weapon Skills and carry several backup weapons; you can only use any single attack once on Baal before it becomes worthless. To get through the first two stages, keep track of which Weapon Skills you’ve used and go down the list one by one, changing out weapons in the Equipment menu as necessary.

Keep in mind that T.O. Analyze stops individual Skills and spells, not attack types. For example, Baal can and will take damage from Fire, Mega Fire, and Giga Fire in the same fight.

Because Baal has a Super Time Engine equipped, he teleports around the battlefield on every turn. This is why your weapons have their Range maxed out, as it lets you hit Baal while moving as little as possible to maximize your damage. Baal is also immune to debuffs and to Stealing Hand.

Stage 2

Baal loses T.O. Analyze with his first “death” and gains T.O. Pandemic in its place. Any character without complete immunity to status ailments via Innocents on his or her equipment will be afflicted by all five of them for the next two turns.

If you’ve done the appropriate preparation, this stage isn’t hard to deal with. If you haven’t, you’ll lose your next turn and Baal will land a critical hit on you for “free” because he hit you while you were Asleep, then immediately put you back to Sleep at the end of the enemy turn. Things will degenerate from there.

Stage 3

T.O. Pandemic drops and is replaced by T.O. Illusion, which gives Baal a 50% chance to avoid all incoming attacks. This is why you have a Broken Cellphone equipped, as it bypasses his Evility and lets you keep up the punishment.

It’s a lot easier to deal with T.O. Illusion than the Evilities of either of the previous two stages. Bring out any other team members you plan to use and equip them with Broken Cellphones so that they can start contributing to the damage. It can be helpful to bring out monsters or unique characters at this point, since they have unique skills that you can use to damage Baal through T.O. Analyze.

You can either utilize a designated healer at this point, such as Flonne, or give as many characters as possible the Sweet Aroma Evility, stolen from an Alarune. That provides your units with a flat 25% healing at the start of your turn for every character that’s standing within two panels of them, and if you’re powerful enough to reach Stage 3 of the Baal fight, that can be worth billions of HP.

Stage 4

Baal starts running out of ideas at this point and will summon two Baal Slaves at the end of his turn. These little guys have Legend Emblems and know a few Tera spells, but they’re “only” level 4,000. You can generally shrug them off and keep after Baal.

Stage 5

Sweet Aroma is handy at this point, as Baal’s new Evility is T.O. Force, which causes him to inflict damage to every member of your team at the end of his turn. The amount inflicted can be anywhere from six to twenty billion per character. If you anticipate the stage transition and move your units closer together, Sweet Aroma should keep you healthy enough to withstand both the hit and the opportunistic strikes from Baal’s Tera Star and Sword Rain spells.

Stage 6

At the end of the next enemy turn after he transitions into his final form, Baal destroys your base panel outright. If you’re going to use any other characters, bring them out now. As long as you’ve got a deep enough pool of methods by which you can damage Baal, you should be able to finish him off.

Of course, all of this is easier said than done. Beating Baal requires that you have a vast library of leveled Special Skills, billions of points in every stat, and the absolute best weapons and armor you can wring out of the game. You shouldn’t be surprised if it takes you a few tries to get used to the fight and get an idea of where you can improve.

The good news is that by default, Baal is not capped on any stat. It is actually possible for your characters to get more powerful than he is without having to beat him first. It will take a considerable amount of time, but you can simply grind your way to glory. Keep farming Pringer Zs for stat points, leveling your items beyond 999 to add to their stat value, and Reincarnating, and sooner or later, you can and will win.

Victory over Baal means you’re unequivocally a master of Disgaea D2. You receive a Great Baal Horn and a Super Time Engine to commemorate your victory, and the character who struck the killing blow receives the title of Tyrant. This goes before their class’s name in their status screen.

The Super Time Engine, when equipped, gives any character a Move of 99 and allows them to bypass any hills, chasms, and cliffs on a map. They don’t even walk anymore; they simply reappear in the target panel.

Map Events

  • Have Laharl attack Baal.
  • Station Etna next to Laharl.
  • Station Sicily next to Flonne.

You can return to Tyrant Overlord War whenever you like for a rematch with Baal. If you are completely insane, you can even use the Enemy Strength cheat to make the fight harder.
