Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness eGuide Essentials Laharl’s Castle

Netherworld Hospital

Your primary source of healing is the Netherworld Hospital, a for-profit institution that’s set up in the castle infirmary. Whenever you get back from battle, it should be your first stop. Speak with Florence, the Cleric by the Dimension Guide, to use the Hospital’s services. The same Hospital also has a branch office in the Item World, where it’s run by Soukichi the Ninja.

Healing a character at the Hospital revives him or her if necessary and restores him or her to full HP and SP. This costs a small sum of HL.

You can use items or cast spells in the field to try to lower the cost of your trip to the Netherworld Hospital, but that’s not ideal. Even early in the game your Hospital fees are likely to be trivial, so using up SP or items to try to dodge a doctor’s bill doesn’t save you much.

More importantly, the Netherworld Hospital has a rewards program. As you heal up, the Hospital keeps track of how much HP and SP it’s restored to your characters, as well as how many times it’s had to revive them, and offers you fabulous prizes as you pass certain milestones thereof. These rewards take the form of valuable accessories and consumable items, all of which are of legendary quality and come complete with a couple of randomly chosen Innocents.

Early in the game, you can cheat the system by equipping and removing equipment that boosts your characters’ maximum HP and SP, such as Muscles and Orbs. Put them on to raise the cap on your HP or SP, visit the Hospital to restore the HP/SP that’s now missing, then remove the equipment and reequip it to repeat the process. This allows you to unlock the higher-tier prizes from the Hospital by, if you think about it, committing insurance fraud. Good work.

This practice becomes impractical once you reach level 30 or so, as the rising health pools and the requirements for the mid-range prizes make it impractical, but it’ll net you some great starting gear in the first few Episodes.

When you clear the Final Episode and receive the true ending, you also unlock an option at the Cheat Shop called Auto-Heal at Base. If that option is toggled on, your characters are automatically restored to life and full HP/SP every time you return to Laharl’s Castle. This is free and costs you nothing, but whatever is restored does not count toward unlocking any remaining prizes from the Hospital.
