Splatoon Guide › Zone 4

Boss Battle: The Ravenous Octomaw

As you’ve done in all previous boss battles, take a moment to thoroughly ink the platform before approaching the Octomaw. After landing on the platform, use your Hero Shot, Splat Bombs, and Seekers to ink as much territory as possible. The more ink spread, the easier it is to swim across the platform and avoid the Octomaw’s attacks.

Round 1

As you approach the center of the platform, the Octomaw goes on the attack. Swim laterally through your ink to avoid getting caught up in his incoming chomp attack. If you’re not fast enough, you’ll find yourself trapped in a cage made of the Octomaw’s teeth. Throw a Splat Bomb at your feet to knock out most of the Octomaw’s teeth, then step out of this lethal ring before you get chomped. When the Octomaw emerges from its ink, shoot out the remaining in the center of its mouth, then toss a Splat Bomb down its throat—aim for the black opening in the back of its mouth. If you hit the mark, the Octomaw’s mouth gapes open, exposing a wiggling tentacle. Splat it with ink to end the first round.

Caution

If the Octomaw retreats to the perimeter of the platform following its initial attack, it will launch its remaining teeth at you. These teeth hover just above the platform, firing splotches of purple ink. You can avoid these attacks if you successfully toss a Splat Bomb down the Octomaw’s throat or eliminate all of its teeth.

Round 2

In the second round, the platform is cleared of ink, making it tougher to move around. The Octomaw also moves much faster and its teeth are composed of a more durable metal. This makes his attacks more difficult to avoid and his teeth more resistant to your ink—it takes more hits to destroy each tooth. But the same tactics apply—escape his chomp attacks, shoot out his teeth, then toss a Splat Bomb down his throat. Follow this up by splatting the exposed tentacle.

Round 3

As the battle enters its final stage, the Octomaw’s teeth are upgraded once again, replaced with sharp, gold chompers. It takes multiple hits to eliminate each tooth, so target one tooth at a time, particularly if you find yourself trapped in the Octomaw’s open mouth. Remember, you don’t have to destroy all the teeth—just the ones in the center blocking its throat. Once the center teeth are destroyed, lob a Splat Bomb down the Octomaw’s throat to expose the tentacle one last time. After splatting the tentacle for the third time, the Octomaw explodes. Rush to the center of the platform and gather the Power Eggs and Sunken Scroll before rescuing the Zapfish.
