Before charging toward the boss, take a moment to spread some ink across the platform. This will allow you to maneuver with ease during the first round of the battle. After landing on the platform, don’t move forward. Instead coat the floor around you and toss Seekers to create ink trails across the platform.
Round 1
The rampaging Octowhirl is a large, metal sphere that spins across the platform like a top, spreading purple ink. During this phase of its attack, just avoid it. Keep an eye on its movement while spreading ink across the center of the platform. But when the Octowhirl stops, pay close attention. At this point the Octowhirl comes rolling toward you at high speed. Enter squid mode and be ready to jump out of its way. If there’s enough of your ink in its path, the rolling Octowhirl gets bogged down and comes to a sudden stop—here’s your chance to attack. When the Octowhirl gets stuck in your ink, splat the wiggling tentacle sticking out of the top of the sphere to advance the battle to the next round.
Round 2
At the start of the second round, the platform is cleared of ink and the Octowhirl’s speed increases. A ring, adjacent to the center of the platform, also begins rotating. Move to the center of the platform and thoroughly ink the area around you, including most of the rotating ring. When the Octowhirl stops, enter squid mode and be ready to jump out of the way as it comes rolling at you—leap laterally, at a perpendicular angle to the incoming Octowhirl, to avoid getting splatted. The Octowhirl’s increased speed makes it much tougher to dodge this time. However, if you’ve spread enough ink in its path, it will get bogged down and come to a sudden stop. Target the writhing tentacle once again to reset the Octowhirl, and enter the third phase of the battle.
Round 3
In the third round, the ink is cleared from the platform and the Octowhirl’s speed increases even more. This time the platform undergoes some drastic changes too, with large sections composed of glass, which cannot be inked. With fewer inkable surfaces, it becomes more difficult to slow down the Octowhirl when it comes rolling at you. Stay in the center and keep inking as much of the platform as possible while dodging the Octowhirl’s roll attacks. Eventually the Octowhirl will roll through enough green ink to get bogged down. Target the wiggling tentacle one last time to defeat the Octowhirl, causing it to explode. Gather the Power Eggs and Sunken Scroll left behind before retrieving the Zapfish.
Ink Battle Rewards
Weapon Unlock: Aerospray MG & Aerospray RG
Using the Sunken Scroll retrieved from the Rampaging Octowhirl, Sheldon can now create the rapid-firing Aerospray MG and Aerospray RG. These weapons can be purchased from Ammo Knights once you’ve reached level 7 and level 13, respectively.
