In Turf War, there’s a lot of ground to cover on Saltspray Rig. Instead of hunting down opponents, focus on spreading ink. Roller weapons are ideal for coating the narrow paths and ramps near the spawn points—Seekers work well in these areas too. But ranged weapons work best near the stage’s center. Here you’re likely to encounter snipers on the two perches or on top of the shipping containers in the back area. Avoid getting caught up in sniper duels. Instead, deal with any threats you encounter, then get back to spreading ink. Constantly glance down at the gamepad’s map to see areas held by the enemy and respond accordingly.
The area around your team’s spawn point is rarely contested, so take a moment to ink this large octagonal platform at the start of the match. Once coated, you probably won’t have to apply any touch-ups for the duration of the round. Leaving this area uncovered can lead to a serious disadvantage later when total ink coverage is calculated.
Remember, every horizontal surface counts in Turf War. Sometimes these small platforms and the tops of walls are left uncoated. Ink the vertical pipes or walls to swim to the top of these structures, then apply some ink before moving on. It may not seem like much, but coating small platforms, ledges, and the tops of walls can make a difference during close matches.
Roller-based weapons are great for quickly coating the narrow corridors and ramps on this stage. If you don’t have a roller yourself, follow a teammate who does, applying touch-ups as necessary with a Splattershot weapon. By working together, you can ink large swaths of the stage in a short amount of time. Swim behind your teammate when you’re not spreading ink to refill your ink-tank—you’ll need to swim to keep up with your speedy teammate.
