As you did during your fight with the Octostomp, spend some time spreading ink around the platform before approaching the boss. As long as you don’t move forward, you can spend as much time as you like expanding your ink coverage. Seekers are particularly useful for creating ink trails across the platform. Focus on coating the area surrounding the boss. This will help out considerably during the first round of the battle.
Round 1
As the battle begins, swim forward through your ink and go on the offensive. Take note of the exposed tentacle poking out of the porthole—this is your target. But don’t forget to avoid the purple balls of ink fired from the boss’s nose. These balls of purple ink roll across the platform, inflicting heavy damage if they hit you. When you’re not dodging these balls, resume your attack on the exposed tentacle. Once you’ve done enough damage, the Octonozzle stops its attacks and a large tentacle pokes out of its head. Ink the side of the Octonozzle, swim to the top, and shoot the tentacle until it explodes.
Round 2
In the second round, the platform is cleared of all ink, so ink a path toward the Octonozzle to resume your attack. This time the boss occasionally fires a wide spread of purple ink balls. These are much more difficult to avoid, especially if you’re not close to the boss. So stay close, keeping the area around the Octonozzle inked while firing at the two newly exposed tentacles poking out of the portholes on the front and back of the enemy.
After destroying the tentacle on the front, circle around the Octonozzle and target the exposed tentacle on its back. Continue circling the Octonozzle and hitting this weak spot until the boss stops and a large tentacle pokes out of its head—this is your cue to swim to the top and splat the wiggling tentacle.
Round 3
As the final round gets underway, rush toward the Octonozzle and ink the area around him while targeting the four exposed tentacles. This requires you to circle around the Octonozzle to hit all four of these targets—swim around the perimeter to avoid getting smacked by incoming ink balls. Once all four tentacles are destroyed, the Octonozzle stops and exposes its large tentacle one last time. Swim to the top and splat the writhing tentacle to defeat the boss. In the aftermath, collect several Power Eggs and the Sunken Scroll before rescuing the Zapfish.

Now that you’ve defeated the Octonozzle, Sheldon can use the recovered Sunken Scroll to create the Kelp Splat Charger. Visit Ammo Knights, in the Plaza, to purchase this weapon for 2,500 gold—it can be used during ink battles.
