There are two Splat Zones on Port Mackerel, one on each side of the stage. Both teams should have no problem capturing and holding the Splat Zone closest to their team’s spawn point—use the perimeter elevated path next to the zone to capture and defend it. But capturing the Splat Zone on the opposite side of the stage is a challenge. Given its close proximity to the opposing team’s spawn point, holding this Splat Zone for any duration is difficult. If you manage to capture it, instead of defending the zone, apply pressure on the enemy team’s spawn point in an effort to cut them off from both Splat Zones. The longer your team can hold both Splat Zones, the more likely you are to win. So don’t be timid. Be aggressive.
Take up a position on the elevated path to control the Splat Zone closest to your team’s spawn point. The height advantage is ideal for spreading ink onto the Splat Zone. Plus, you’ll have an easy time spotting and engaging opponents. This is also a relatively safe position. If the enemy wants to sneak up behind you, they’ll have to sneak past your team’s spawn point to access this path.
The fight for the Splat Zone closest to the opposing team’s spawn point is an all-out slugfest. Unless you can flank the opposing team and take control of their elevated path, you’ll be attacking from ground level, likely while under fire. Make a concerted push with at least one other teammate, using Splash Bombs, Suction Bombs, or Seekers to spearhead your attack—Bubbler and Kraken are very helpful during this push as well. Expect to come under fire by opponents positioned on the ledge just above the Splat Zone. A well-timed Ink Strike prior to your advance may give you the edge you need to capture the Splat Zone.
Wondering how the opposing team is capturing your team’s Splat Zone so quickly? Check the GamePad—chances are they have a Squid Beakon nearby. All active Squid Beakons appear on the GamePad’s map, including those belonging to the enemy team. Placing Squid Beakons on the elevated paths next to each Splat Zone is a great way to maintain control of both zones.
