The Final Showdown
You’ve finally reached the last maze. The second room from the entrance of Level 9 contains an Old Man. If you haven’t assembled all the parts of the Triforce, he won’t let you pass. This maze is the largest one yet, and it’s extremely intricate. Some rooms lead to shortcuts, others lead nowhere. To keep from getting lost, plan your route carefully, and make sure to keep a close eye on your Map in the Subscreen. One wrong turn and Death Mountain becomes a much more difficult place.
Use what you learned in earlier mazes to overcome the challenges of Death Mountain. Use bombs to reveal secret passages between rooms. Defeat enemies to claim the items they hold. Push blocks to reveal secret passages and hidden shortcuts. Everything you’ve experienced has prepared you for this moment.
Prepare Yourself
The Compass, the Map, and the Red Ring are all fairly close together. Your first order of business should be to plot a simple route that allows you to collect all of them. None of these items is mandatory, but gathering them makes your time in Death Mountain much easier.
Fighting Patra
You encounter a new kind of enemy in this Level. Patra, a flying eyeball with a ring of smaller, similar-looking minions, appears in rooms around the labyrinth. Your Sword is the only thing you can use against them. You must finish off the little ones first, or you’ll never be able to beat the bigger ones. They are persistent!
Remember the Way Out
No matter how confident you are, it pays to know the way back to Death Mountain’s entrance. Water of Life certainly comes in handy, but you also need to maintain a supply of bombs and Rupees. If you find yourself running low on vital items, consider making a temporary retreat—particularly if you’ve already claimed some of the important items scattered around Death Mountain. You can always come back when you’re restocked and refreshed.
Claim the Silver Arrows
Without the Silver Arrows, you won’t stand a chance against Ganon. Remember to track them down before you enter his chamber. The power of the Triforce makes Ganon impervious to most forms of damage, but a single Silver Arrow can take him right out of the fight.
The Final Battle
You’ve come this far, conquering many mazes and overcoming dangerous challenges. Now it’s time to finish Link’s quest. Soon after you enter Ganon’s chamber, he vanishes into the shadows. You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?
