The World of Night is a challenging gauntlet of obstacles and enemies that put your skills to the test. Be ready for anything!
World 5-1
This may very well be the most difficult stage in Super Mario Bros. 2. You must cross a waterfall that seems endless. Accomplish this by stepping on the logs and Trouters. One false move and you’re gone. Concentrate, or you’re in the drink!
Jump on Trouter Again and Again
You can’t get over to the other side without jumping on the Trouters’ heads three times in a row. This is the toughest part. Practice until you learn the best timing. And don’t give up! You can do it!
Take the High Road!
There’s another Mushroom to find, but reaching it takes a bit of planning. Once you’ve made it past the Trouters, dash toward the last two logs (hold the B Button!), jump across them, and make a big leap onto the rocks near the top of the screen. You’ll find two Mushroom Blocks there. Grab the Mushroom Block on the right to clear it from the gap as you drop down to the ground. Now you’re ready to enter Sub-Space!
Fight with a Mushroom Block!
Here’s Birdo again, and now she’s only spitting fire! Looks like you have to rely on the nearby Mushroom Block. Fight cautiously—it’s more important now than ever.
World 5-2
World 5 is a night world. You see clouds, but no moon or stars. In the first half of World 5-2, you have to cross the vines with Hoopsters. Good luck! It’s not easy. After that, there’s a drop to the bottom of a deep valley.
Get Past the Hoopsters!
Those are hostile Hoopsters moving up and down the trees. Use these enemies to your advantage! When a jump is too high to make on your own, hop on a Hoopster and take a quick ride.
Climb Up the Right Side of the Vine!
At the end of Area 1, you must climb up the vine. But look out! On your way, you’re attacked from the sides by two Snifits, and you have to dodge some bothersome Beezos. Stick to the right vine as long as possible. Move quickly to get above the first Hoopster, and then hop over to the left vine to avoid the next enemy.
Battle on the Bridge!
You’ve made it to the top of the vines, but all you find is a POW in the middle of dead-end bridge. Well, you might as well take the POW, but what’s going on? You’re falling all the way down! You’re on the right path, though. Try to relax and enjoy the ride down. Things will look up soon.
It’s Dangerous Here—Watch Out!
If you drop straight down, you land right on some spikes. You can avoid that by controlling your fall. Once you grab that POW Block, move left and right to steer clear of scattered spikes. You won’t run into many enemies while descending, but you can get hurt if you’re not careful.
Goal!
So you thought you’d finally made it to the ground after the long fall, right? Wrong. You’ve come to a river with Trouters jumping around. Move right to land by the river. But be careful—there’s one more set of spikes to avoid, and you definitely don’t want to land in the water!
Battle on the Bridge!
You can’t miss the Little Boss at the end of the stage. Birdo, with her eggs and flames, is waiting for you. She plans to knock you off the bridge into the water, so get ready. You can defeat her the same way you have before, but don’t let Trouter take you by surprise!
World 5-3
World 5-3 is a long one. First of all, Bob-ombs attack you one after another, so climb up inside the big tree and ride on Pidgit’s carpet. Brace yourself! Clawgrip, the big crab, awaits you at the end of the stage; he’s all too eager to pummel you with rocks. Be prepared for a challenging fight.
There are several Cherries in the first area—grab them all! Starman’s power makes it much easier to deal with falling Bob-ombs.
Here Come the Bob-ombs!
Remember: Bob-ombs can hurt you by touching you, but they can also explode on their own. Use small jumps to hop over Bob-ombs as quickly as possible—big jumps are bound to send you sailing right into more Bob-ombs!
Don’t Take That Block!
If you take this Mushroom Block, Bob-ombs begin pouring out of the jar. This is handy if you want to destroy the nearby rocks, but if you’re done entering Sub-Space, it’s best to leave that Mushroom Block alone!
Use Mushroom Blocks!
You’re right in the middle of a gigantic tree. Go down to the bottom and around to the left, then climb all the way to the top branches. On your way, you find two jars with Shy Guys bursting out of them. This is not as bad as it looks. Just cover them with the Mushroom Blocks. You can also use Mushroom Blocks to deal with any troublesome enemies you encounter during your climb.
Fight or Flee?
Panser comes down the stairs spitting flames. If you have a Mushroom Block, you can try to throw it at him—but it’s usually easier to simply stay out of his way. If Panser approaches you from the left, run to the right and you appear on the left. Lucky for you, the sides of the screens are connected!
A Thrilling Mid-Air Flight!
Ride Pidgit’s flying carpet all the way to the edge of the cliff on the right. But take care of Snifit first, then wait for Pidgit to fly your way. Once you’ve seized his carpet, move quickly to the right. You’ll encounter another Pidget during your flight—you’re free to switch carpets, but your first carpet should last long enough to get you across the gap. When you come to the log with the grass, you’re safe.
Can She Stop Mario?
Two Little Bosses show up in this level. One of them is your old enemy Birdo. You’ve beaten her many times before; she’s a piece of cake by now, right? Don’t be too confident! This egghead is smart!
Fight Rocks with Rocks!
The second Little Boss is Clawgrip, one of the most powerful of all the Little Bosses. He throws a steady stream of triangle-shaped rocks at you. Don’t let him hit you! Move fast, and when you see an opening, pick up the rocks that fall and throw them back.
