Nintendo Playing with Power eGuide Kirby’s Adventure Levels

Level 6: Orange Ocean

Level 6-1

Copy Abilities

Miniboss: Rolling Turtle

Going through the first door you find in this stage leads you to Rolling Turtle, in what is arguably one the toughest rooms in the game for fighting a Miniboss. The shallow water is just high enough to prevent you from sucking up the rocks he throws, and from jumping over his attacks easily. Since this fight only yields the Throw Copy Ability, we suggest avoiding it altogether. Throw is not worth the effort and risk it takes to get it. The only real benefit to having Throw in this stage is the ability to get a 1-Up, which we believe isn’t work the risk either.

You’ve probably encountered a Mix Copy Ability by now, but in case you haven’t, Mix is what happens when you suck up two or more enemies with Copy Abilities at the same time. The powers mix, and you get a random power to replace them. Though, in reality, it’s not as random as it might appear. Certain combinations of enemies increase the likelihood of certain powers being produced. In this case, sucking up the Flamer and Sparky gives you a high chance of getting Hammer, which is a power you need to hit the hidden Switch in this stage.

Take Hammer through the first door you encounter up ahead, and use it to break the block barricading the door in the bottom-middle area of the room. Head through the door to find the hidden Switch for this stage, which unlocks Orange Ocean’s Museum.

The final area of this stage is very challenging. Leaping, flying, and running enemies attack Kirby at every turn. Move through this place slowly, and take out each enemy one at a time.

Museum

Here is a colorful display of enemies with special abilities. Eat the one you want! On display in this Museum? None other than Wheelie!

Access this Museum by hitting the Switch in Level 6-1.

Level 6-2

Copy Abilities

To get the soda in this screenshot, bring a Copy Ability into the stage. Puffing up with air and spitting it out at the Bomb Block doesn’t give you enough time to reach the soda.

Another important element to this particular area is the black square above the soda. You may have already guessed, but that’s actually a door. Upon entering the room, stand completely still. A Rocky falls from the sky and crushes you if you try to get the 1-Up too soon. Suck up the Rocky to get Stone power; you need it to reach the hidden Switch in this stage.

In the middle of the cloud area is a door. Enter with Hammer or the Stone power you found earlier and pound the peg down in the center of the room. This grants you access to the hidden Switch, which unlocks the Arena for Orange Ocean.

Be careful when exiting. The Sparkys in the room prior are right there waiting for you, regardless of whatever door you exit the Switch room from.

This area of the stage is jam-packed with Copy Ability enemies. Right from the start you find Fireball and Tornado, and at the end of the area you find UFO! Find a Maxim Tomato at the bottom too!

Arena

Two fighters go in, but only one leaves. Eat a Tomato and an ability for a win!

Hit the Switch in Level 6-2 to unlock this Arena.

Fire Lion is back and as ferocious as ever. Keep an eye out for its air attacks, don’t let it grab you, and be ready for when it smashes its face into the ground—that’s your time to strike!

Defeating and absorbing Fire Lion nets you Fireball.

Level 6-3

Copy Abilities

Miniboss: Bonkers

Bonkers returns in this stage, and it’s a good thing too! To get the hidden Switch in this stage, you need his Hammer power. Find Fireball in front of the door leading into the stage’s second area. Fireball works well against Bonkers, so to make the fight go quickly, grab it on the way in.

After defeating Bonkers, absorb him for his Hammer power. Head right, and destroy the crate to the right of the top of the ladder.

Head to the right and drop down. Follow the path left until you see a Bomb Block. Hit the Bomb Block to flood the lower area of the ship. Walk over to where the Bomb Block was, and press Up to head through an invisible passage. Hold Down immediately after emerging. There’s a 1-Up directly below you in the next room, and you don’t have a chance of getting it if you aren’t holding Down as soon as you enter.

Defeat the Sword Knight, then push up while standing on the block he was on. You enter another hidden room, this one containing a Maxim Tomato and a Laser Ball. Suck up the Laser Ball to get Laser power, then head back out and go through the passage on the left. Use Laser to shoot the slanted corner on the right side of the room, just above the fuse. This lights the cannon fuse, so jump into the cannon immediately afterward.

After all these steps, after going through all this, your reward is worth it: a hidden Switch that unlocks the Crane Fever in Orange Ocean.

Once back outside, you come to a part of the ship with two doors. When you enter, you encounter a wall that separates you from a 1-Up. The trick is to ignore the doors and go through the windows instead.

Level 6-4

Copy Abilities

In the second area of this stage, you find a handful of Bomb Blocks and a small collection of 1-Ups. You need a power that can attack downward to destroy the first Bomb Block. We suggest you use Freeze, which you can find in Level 5-1. It’s a bit of a trek to get back there, but as soon as you get Freeze, pause the game and exit the level, then race right back here. You get a whole mess of 1-Ups for your trouble.

Another tricky hidden passage conceals the Switch for this stage. Use the screenshot to find exactly where it is. This location is in the bottom-right corner of the second area. Enter the narrow path and push Up when you reach the end to find the Switch. Hitting the Switch unlocks the Egg Catching Minigame for Orange Ocean.

Coconuts cover this narrow area. Grab the parasol from the prior area before flying up this mess. The parasol deflects the coconuts, allowing you to safely reach the top.

Level 6-5

Copy Abilities

This stage hides another tricky Switch. After traversing several areas, you eventually come to a mountain with a Bomb Block near its summit. Destroying the Bomb Block uncovers a fuse. Head up a little farther to find another Bomb Block; this one uncovers the cannon the fuse is connected to.

The obvious goal here is to light the fuse, then jump into the cannon in time to be shot out of it, but this is much, MUCH easier said than done. To complete this challenge, both Bomb Blocks must be destroyed before you light the fuse. Get Fire to light the fuse from the Hot Head at the base of the mountain. As soon as you light the fuse, fly back up and immediately double-tap the Right Button to make Kirby run. Two enemies on the slope can undo your plans if they hit you. Don’t attack either of them. Jump over both of them without flying and keep on running. If you do everything right, you land in the cannon with just enough time to spare.

If at any point you make a mistake, head to the start of the area, go through the door, and come back to reset the room.

Level 6-6

Copy Abilities

In the first area of this stage, run to the right until you find an opening in the ground. Drop down and fly to the left. Find a small passage with a door barricaded by ice blocks. To break through, you need another power, which, as luck would have it, you can find in the next room.

UFOs, which wait in the next area, work splendidly for breaking ice blocks. Grab one, then fly back to the first area of the stage and break open the ice blocks. Inside you find—you guessed it!—another hidden Switch. Hitting this one unlocks the Orange Ocean Star Station.

Eventually you come to a room with two doors to choose from. Which door should you go through? Well, the bottom door leads to a pair of Mr. Frostys, but after that it’s a pretty simple trip to where the paths converge.

The top room, on the other hand, leads to a pair of Poppy Bros Sr., then to a room with an Invincibility Candy, and eventually a 1-Up, but only if you have Fire, Fireball, or UFO power. The choice is yours which door to use. Both paths inevitably converge on Meta Knight’s squad.

Miniboss: Meta Knight’s Knights

No matter what path you take, you end up fighting Meta Knight’s squadron of Knights. Use normal Kirby to suck each of them up and spit them out at each other, making short work of them.

Orange Ocean Boss: Meta Knight

It’s finally time to take on Meta Knight and discover whether he’s actually friend or foe. A sword in the center of the room gives Kirby permanent Sword power for this fight. Meta Knight wants a duel between equals and refuses to fight until he’s certain Kirby agrees to these terms.

Meta Knight fights like Fire Lion in that he loves to trick you into moving in certain directions. He also charges toward you quickly and deflects your attacks with his sword. If that’s not bad enough, he often follows up your attacks with a counterattack. He’s a real challenger, so to beat him, be ready for anything.

There isn’t really a trick to fighting Meta Knight. Dodge his attacks, then immediately follow up with a flurry of your own. It takes practice and skill to best him, so don’t worry if you lose lives against him. You can do it!
