There are two “Selections” on the Main menu, both of which determine whether you race other motocrossers or not. Selection A is simply time trials. You race against the clock to beat the third place time, which is shown at all times during the race in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Beat that time to advance. If you go over that time, you get a “Game Over.”
If you choose Selection B, you race on the same tracks as Selection A, but have other racers on the track to potentially knock you off your bike. Beating the clock is still the goal here, but it’s a lot harder to accomplish with so many other racers on the track.
After beating the time in a race, you must race on that track a second time, but with a lower time-to-beat and with new obstacles on the course. The second time around is much more challenging than the first, so it might take a few tries to get past each track. Just keep practicing and you’ll beat it eventually! See if you can get through all of the tracks in one try!
Design Mode
Design Mode is a feature of this game that allows you to design your own favorite layout.
Select the Design Mode from the Title screen and press Start. Then choose the Design Mode again to set up the course layout. Move the motocrosser forward with the A Button to the desired location, then select an obstacle from “A” to “S” and place it on the track using the B Button. To Erase a hurdle, select “CL” and press the B Button.
You can also establish the number of laps for the course—from one to nine laps—by pressing Up and Down on the Directional Pad.
