The Easiest Underworld Labyrinth
Level 1 is the easiest of all nine Underworld labyrinths. This is the perfect place to learn how The Legend of Zelda works.
Pay Attention to the Wall Master
A Wall Master appears in the room just before Aquamentus. If a Wall Master lands its grabby mitt on you, it takes you back to the entrance of Level 1. Talk about a worst-case scenario!
But this won’t happen unless you touch the wall; Wall Masters only appear when the wall is touched—they are fiercely territorial! If a Wall Master does appear, get away from it as soon as possible and carefully wear it out with your Sword. You can do it!
Getting a Map and a Compass
There may be nothing as helpful to traversing the Underworld as the Map and Compass are together. Every Underworld labyrinth has this pair of explorer’s tool, but before you can use them, you have to find them. You can find the Compass in the room two rooms north and one room east of the labyrinth entrance. The Map is three rooms north of the entrance, requiring you to work your way around to reach it.
Obtain a Key to Open the Door
There are many rooms with keyholes in the Underworld. You can’t open these rooms without Keys. One way to get a Key is to find one on the floor in the labyrinth; another way is to get the Keys that appear when you beat all the enemies in a room. Although you can buy Keys from the merchant, the Keys from the Underworld labyrinth are sufficient. Buying Keys unnecessarily from the merchant merely wastes your Rupees.
Go for the Triforce!
The Triforce of Level 1 is in the far-east room of the dungeon, but a strong enemy named Aquamentus is guarding it. In short, unless you beat Aquamentus, you won’t obtain the Triforce.
Get Your Wooden Boomerang!
The Wooden Boomerang is one of the treasures that you can get in Level 1. It appears after you defeat all the Goriyas in the room before the Wall Master’s lair. Be careful, though! The Goriyas have boomerangs of their own that they’ll use to attack Link. Dodge their attacks and defeat them one by one.
Take the Key from the Stalfos
There are some enemies in Underworld labyrinths who possess Keys; the Stalfos in the room directly east of the entrance and the one second from the top of the Map are proof of this. Defeat them and claim the Keys for yourself!
Defeat Your Enemies and Open the Door
There are several doors that don’t open no matter how many Keys you have. If you walk into a room where the door closes behind you, stay calm! The only way to open these doors is to defeat all the enemies in the room, and panicking just makes this more difficult. Stay levelheaded and careful, and you’ll get those doors open once again!
Get the Bow!
The Boomerang isn’t the only special item in Level 1; the Bow can also be picked up down here. Find the Bow by heading to the room at the top-left corner of the labyrinth.
Once you’re there, move one of the blocks barricading the stairway in the center of the room—which one is for you to discover.
Once you’ve made your way down the stairway, the Bow is yours! Remember, you still need to find some arrows in order to use it!
