Welcome back to the World of Deserts. Things are much tougher in these stages than your first tour of the desert, so don’t let your guard down! Hang in there! You’re almost to the end!
World 6-1
World 6-1 looks a lot like the World of Deserts in World 2, but you run into more quicksand here. Look hard to find the Key hidden in the second area of this stage.
Clear the Cobrats!
Cobrats can be a real pain! Remember that even if you make it safely past a Cobrat, it can still attack you. It’s best to clear out these persistent pests as you move through the area.
There are a whopping 21 jars in this stage! Don’t bother searching all of them. There’s a 1-Up hidden in the third jar from the left—make sure you grab that first. The Key is stashed in the fifth jar from the right. Head down and collect it when you’re ready to leave the area. You have to dig through sand to reach these items, but you shouldn’t have any trouble finding them.
Fire-Breathing Birdo!
Birdo shows up again, but in this world she only blows fire. And she’s not so hot at that! Destroy her with three Mushroom Blocks.
World 6-2
In World 6-2, get on the back of your enemy Albatoss and start on your loooooooong night journey. If you fall off, you’re done for. But you can move ahead so much easier this way, compared to leaping across waterfalls on Trouters.
Make it Across with Squat Jump
Now head into World 6-2. Uh-oh, can’t get over the wall? They sure build them high around here. But there is a way. A running leap (or a Squat Jump) should get you up there, no problem!
Albatoss Airlines
Once you make it outside, you find yourself on the edge of a steep cliff. There’s only one clump of grass at your feet. And an army of angry Albatosses is coming for you! You have to hitch a ride on an eastbound Albatoss! Look for the Albatoss that’s flying to the right, and let it carry you to the goal. Don’t think this will be a relaxing flight, though. You run into plenty of baddies along the way. Pluck that grass before you go; you never know when a fresh Vegetable might come in handy. And always be ready to perform an emergency Squat Jump!
Nasty Little Birdo
The Little Boss of World 6-2 is Birdo again. This nasty character doesn’t give up easily! She really goes looking for trouble. Meet her flaming throws with the Mushroom Blocks! You don’t have much room to dodge, so stay on your toes!
World 6-3
Get through this world and you finally advance to World 7, where your ultimate enemy—Wart—is waiting for you! Birdo and Tryclyde, the Little Bosses of the pyramid, are guarding the finish. It’s not over! The worst is yet to come.
A Hidden Shortcut!
After you climb the ladder, start sinking into the quicksand while holding left against the wall to the left. You eventually drop into the sand and under the wall.
Keep moving left, and continue jumping to avoid sinking too low into the quicksand. Eventually, you reach a hidden door. Enter it and you can go straight to the end of the stage—just follow the clouds to the Little Boss’ pyramid.
Avoid Bob-ombs with a Ladder!
After entering the cave, Bob-ombs come out of the jar one after another. You don’t need to run away, though. Just climb up the ladder and wait. The Bob-ombs explode by themselves and destroy the jar.
Scaling the Walls of Vines
After exiting the cave, climb the vines from the bottom all the way to the top. The only things that help Mario here are the Mushroom Blocks. You may not see many enemies, but beware! If you fall down, you must start all over again from the very beginning.
Step 1
If you’re not good at travelling sideways, you can go up by holding onto the vines on your right. But you have to go over three Hoopsters. It’s up to you! Which is the worse evil?
Step 2
Move sideways from vine to vine. Don’t hesitate! You won’t fall off if you’re fast. You can make it by pressing Up and Right or Up and Left on the Directional Pad.
Step 3
You encounter pesky Snifits along the way. Be patient. Watch each Snifit until you can predict his attacks. Get close, and then slip past the Snifit when you know it’s safe.
Step 4
Climb up the vines on your left. If you go to the right where you see the three vines, you find three Hoopsters above you. So if you want to play it safe, go to the left.
Fight Without Using Blocks
Birdo is the first Little Boss. There’s a Mushroom Block below her, but it’s probably more useful as a stepping stool. Use Birdo’s eggs to attack her—just make sure you avoid her flames!
Who’s Afraid of Tryclyde?
Tryclyde is the second Little Boss. Check out those seven Mushroom Blocks on the floor. Remember the stunt you pulled against Tryclyde in World 2-3? Build a wall by stacking three of them in a row. This way you can stay cool even though he’s spitting flames. Now fling the Blocks you have left at him. You need to bonk him three times.
