Nintendo Playing with Power Guide › Ice Climber

Scoring

Because you can start your game on any mountain—and because you’ll never run out of new climbs to attempt—the ultimate goal of Ice Climber is to score as many points as you can before you run out of climbers. Each time you conquer a mountain, any points you earned during your climb are added to your total score. Bonus stages offer the best opportunities to earn points, but there are a few other ways to boost your score throughout each climb.

Fixed Point Values

Some actions award a set amount of points, no matter when or how you perform them:

  • You receive 400 points for each piece of Topi ice you smash.
  • You receive 800 points for each Nitpicker you defeat.

Variable Point Values

Actions like destroying terrain, collecting vegetables, or grabbing a Condor reward different point values, depending on when or how you perform them.

Destroying Terrain

Destroying a block of terrain is always awarded with points, but the value for each block varies by mountain. To determine the exact value of a given block, multiply the number assigned to your current mountain by 10 points. This means that destroying a block of terrain on Mountain 01 is worth 10 points, while destroying a block on Mountain 32 is worth 320 points.

Point Values: Destroying Terrain
Location Point Value (Per Block)

Collecting Vegetables

The number of points awarded for collecting a vegetable varies based on how many bonus stages you’ve already reached. This means that while progressing through mountains yields more valuable vegetables, the specific mountain has no effect on how many points are awarded for collecting a vegetable.
