There are tons of items, enemies, and mechanics to find and overcome in The Legend of Zelda. Use this section to prepare for all the challenges to come.
Main Screen and Subscreen
There are two screens in this game: the Main Screen and a Subscreen. Usually the Main Screen is on display. When you press the Start Button, the Subscreen appears.
Overworld and Underworld
The stages of this game consist of the vast Overworld and the nine Underworld labyrinths.
The Overworld consists of 128 screens. It is composed of forests, lakes, mountains, and deserts. You must face these challenges and descend into the Underworld to obtain the Triforce pieces.
Be Aware of Link’s Life Hearts
The red Hearts in the upper-left corner of the Main Screen indicate the young hero’s life force. As he sustains damage, the red Hearts turn white. When all of them become white, it’s “Game Over.” Link starts his adventure with only three Hearts. As he proceeds, he can gain additional Heart Containers.
Fight with a Sword and a Shield
Link’s main weapon is a Sword. There are three kinds of Swords: the Regular Sword, the White Sword with double strength, and the Magical Sword, which is the strongest. Operate the Swords with the A Button. There are two Shields that Link can obtain as well: a Regular Shield and the Magical Shield.
Gather the Triforce
To battle against Ganon’s Triforce of Power, you need the Triforce of Wisdom. However, the Triforce of Wisdom is divided into eight pieces, and they are hidden in each of the first eight Underworld labyrinths. When you obtain a piece of the Triforce, all your Heart Containers refill and you are transported back to the entrance of the labyrinth.
