Nintendo Playing with Power Guide › Kid Icarus

Completing Kid Icarus

General Advice

Kid Icarus can be a very challenging game, but there are a few things you can do to help ensure that you emerge victorious:

• Increase Pit’s Endurance meter as quickly as you can. Before you complete Stage 1-1, battle McGoos to boost your overall score. Try to earn at least 50,000 points before you reach the first checkpoint. It might take some practice, but the extra Endurance makes it much easier to overcome some of the game’s early challenges.

• Make an Angel’s Feather your first purchase. As you continue to earn Hearts, keep a supply of at least two Angel’s Feathers available at all times. Water of Life is also very helpful, so invest in a Water Barrel once you have sufficient funds.

• Items like Hearts and Water of Life Chalices vanish when you leave an area. Collect every available item before you pass through a door.

• Learn the properties of various platforms. Pit can jump or drop through some platforms, while others stop him cold. Icy platforms offer very little traction, and moving platforms often float past enemies or hazards. You’re much more likely to conquer a stage once you understand the footholds it offers.

• In vertical stages, Pit can often move past the edge of the screen to emerge on the opposite side of the stage. This isn’t just handy—it’s an essential part of reaching some checkpoints.

• Pick your battles! Some enemies are bound to give you more trouble than others. If you’re having trouble dealing with a specific enemy type, avoid fighting them until you’ve improved Pit’s combat abilities.

• When it comes to selecting enchanted Weapons, consider picking the Protective Crystal first, followed by the Sacred Bow, and, finally, Fire (Flaming Arrows).

• Take your time. There aren’t any time limits to worry about, and you don’t receive any bonuses for completing stages quickly. Unless you’re being hounded by troublesome enemies, there’s no harm in assessing your options before you make a move.
