Madden NFL 17 eGuide Top 5 Tips from Clint Oldenburg

Gauntlet

The Gauntlet is back and includes new challenges to help you practice the new mechanics. It’s a great way to test your skills in a very unconventional way. This allows you to focus on the skill and the mechanics without the distractions of live game strategy. Keep an eye out for ladder and extra-life challenges that can give you more lives or allow you to skip levels.

Gauntlet Boss Level Guide

The Gauntlet has some all-new bosses this year, along with all of your old favorites. The game puts you up against a random defensive team this season, so you never know which opponent you’re going to face. You also never know which boss challenge you’re going to get at each level (but we’ve listed all the possibilities!), so be ready for anything. You have a 6 percent chance of getting a risk level at any level or a 7 percent chance of getting a bonus. Completing a risk level allows you to jump three levels forward, but if you fail, you jump two levels back.

Level 5 Pro Tips

Hurricane Season

The kicking arc is your best friend on this drill. Take your time and line up the swaying arc between the uprights.

Race to the Ball

Simply starting the meter but not trying to time the kick or stop it results in a kick with no power and should give you a great chance.

Punting Into the Wind

Don’t move the kicking arrow. Click onto a different player than the punter to give yourself more speed on the recovery.

Swinging Gate

Aim for full power, because it has the smallest variation, and don’t forget to factor in the time to let the meter fill up!

Level 10 Pro Tips

Entourage

Be very patient on this level. Start toward the left side, then speed up and finish to the right.

Bodyguards

Leave the first defender unblocked and your teammates will pick him up. Look for higher priority targets downfield.

Flying V

You can run through the hot spots; they won’t slow you down or end the level!

Level 15 Pro Tips

RB Gauntlet

If you time a move correctly, you will always fake out the defender.

RB Gauntlet 2

The groups of defenders make it tough to fake out just one player. The sideline and your speed advantage are your friends here.

Beat the Clock

Start left or right, but never toward the middle. Keep an eye on the clock, which is small and in the right corner of the screen.

Level 20 Pro Tips

Extend the Play

A completed pass that’s not in the hot zone doesn’t count as a fail!

Hallway

Playmaker is still great, but use conservative catches to help with the narrow sidelines.

Trickeration

Keep the HB alive with the ball and wait for the QB to finish his route before throwing it back to him.

Level 25 Pro Tips

Media Day

Remember that the people on the field can slow you down, or they can slow down your would-be tacklers.

Minefield

Let your center take out two tacklers.

Level 30 Pro Tips

One Man D

Never go for an interception; use the swat option (RB/R1).

One Man D 2

You have a speed advantage, so don’t dive and take yourself out of the play. You can knock over blockers to trip up the back.

Level 35 Pro Tips

Stay Alive

This drill has been the most difficult one. It’s still tough, but do-able.

Hook and Ladder

Get the ball quickly to the last back with three pitches and then hit the corner of the end zone on the left side.

Level 40 Pro Tips

Hail Mary

The final boss is still one of the toughest; remember to use your WR’s speed to your advantage.
