Offensive Scouting Report
- With Blaine Gabbert having taken over at QB last season, there is still some strength there. This is a good season to make him a real leader of the team and that should fit just right with the playbook. Colin Kaepernick is back at the starting position, but consider playing with the idea of starting Gabbert.
- The 49ers are still very young, especially with HB Carlos Hyde taking snaps in the backfield. Work on his agility to see if he can become an every-down back for your team. Until then, use Shaun Draugn as your third-down back and find creative ways to get him into the short passing game.
- The 49ers have a very fast WR Torry Smith on their offense now, and he has shown his talent. Use Patton over the middle for his Speed and Catch skills, but don’t expect a whole lot of yards after the catch.
Defensive Scouting Report
- The biggest question on the defensive line: Can anyone on the line step in and take over as the anchor. Look to snag a veteran with power, strength and block shedding to cover what you need.
- While the 49ers lost some more talent in the offseason, they still have solid, elite players with some youth and depth to build around. Upgrade the young players and demand that they step up.
- CB Tramaine Brock is good in man coverage, while CB Dontae Johnson has the size to match up with WRs, so use any extra XP to build him into a lockdown man defender. The Cover 2 Sing is an excellent way to take advantage of your lineup!
SCHEDULE
Key Players
- McDonald is an all-around all-star. He’s up for this challenge and must take over.
- His Toughness and Trucking ratings are excellent, which will allow him to gain some yards after the catch.
- Bowman has proven that he’s healthy. He has embraced his role on the defense and can truly be a leader this season.
- Bowman’s Block Shed rating makes him a star in the run game.
- The team really needed a solid RE and they got one. Buckner should see a high number of sacks this season.
- Buckner is extremely powerful, so use his Power Move to bust through the offensive line.
- Calek may not be playing in the first position, but he’s still a solid player. He can catch in most situations on the field.
- Know your scheme and use Garrett Calek if you plan on a power rushing attack.
