Offense
The Denver offense has some unique formation names, with “dice” and “deuce” showing up, but don’t be fooled—it is one of the best playbooks for passing downfield in Madden NFL 17.
Key Formation
Pistol Bunch TE forces the defense into a tough alignment against the offense, allowing you to take any area they leave weak. Start out by targeting the flats early and often until they commit to slowing you down. Short passes don’t just set you up for later in the game; one broken tackle can turn a short gain into a first down.
Key Player
WR with 90+ Route Running
Formations
- SINGLEBACK: Jumbo, Jumbo Z, Ace, Ace Twins, Ace Pair, Ace Pair Twins, Bunch Ace, Tight U Slot, Doubles, Y-Trips, Wing Trips Open, Trio
- I-FORM: Pro, Tight Twins, Tight
- STRONG: Pro Twins
- WEAK: Pro Twins, Slot Flex
- PISTOL: Bunch, Trips
- GUN: Ace, Doubles, Doubles HB Wk, Bunch Wk, Snugs, Normal Y-Flex, Empty Bronco
This playbook has multiple receiving options from every formation, but whenever you get one-on-one coverage, take a chance downfield if you have a good matchup.
OFFENSIVE Draft Targets
- WR (6’3”, RTE, SPC, ACC)
- TE (RTE, ACC, SPD)
- QB (THP, SAC, DAC)
Defense
The Broncos use a 3-4 defensive scheme in Madden NFL 17 and have great coverages that allow for CBs to play physical man coverage. This is a fairly rare style, but it can be a tough matchup for players who don’t face heavy man coverage.
Key Formation
The Nickel 2-4-5 Dbl A Gap formation is a little aggressive, but it lets you bring serious pressure on third down. If your opponents didn’t build heavily on the offensive line, they will be in trouble!
Key Player
CB with 90 Press
Formations
- 3-4: Odd, Under, Over, Even, Solid
- NICKEL: 2-4-5, 2-4-5 Dbl A Gap, 3-3-5 Wide
- BIG DIME: 2-3-6, 2-3-6 Will, 1-4-6
- QUARTER: 1-3-7, 3 Deep
The defensive line doesn’t need to be talented with pass-rush moves, but it must be strong to slow down the offensive line and keep it from getting to the second level and blocking LBs who are built for speed.
DEFENSIVE Draft Targets
- MLB (SPD, MCV, PUR)
- CB (MCV, PRS, TAK)
- OLB (STR, PMV, MCV)
