Offensive Scouting Report

  • QB Alex Smith is average across the board. He won’t win you many games, but with a solid rushing attack and sound defense, he won’t lose you any either. Keep Smith as your starter until his Throw Power rating dips below 80.
  • The Chiefs should rely on HB Jamaal Charles as much as possible; however, Spencer Ware is a great short-yardage back who can keep the chains moving and give Charles a rest.
  • Continuing to upgrade WR Jeremy Maclin should make the rushing game easier. Kelce is also a very solid run blocker and should almost always be on the field. Continue to develop the young talent at WR and the Chiefs’ lineup will gradually become more explosive.

Defensive Scouting Report

  • The defensive line for the Chiefs is strong and will do a great job against the run. DT Dontari Poe will shut down running lanes in the middle with his 97 Strength rating. LE Allen Bailey’s contract is up at the end of the season, and we think you should let him test free agency.
  • The Chiefs’ LBs are tops in the NFL for all-around talent and rushing the passer. Continue to work on finesse moves for LE Dee Ford so he can fill in for anyone who gets injured or can’t be signed long term.
  • Having Tamba Hali on the defensive roster again this season will help build up the outside line and protect from the outside run. His experience in the league will quickly turn him into a leader, just continue to upgrade his already high ratings and he will serve your defense well.

SCHEDULE

Key Players

  • Charles has a decent Catching rating of 72, which is more than many WRs in the league.
  • Utilize Charles on an every-down basis until he needs a rest. His juke is the best way to beat a defender in the open field if you can’t simply outrun him.
  • Houston is the best pass-rushing LB in the NFL. Don’t worry about his matchup or even double teams.
  • Houston benefits from Tamba Hali on the other side, but he’s also an excellent run defender with great ability to shed blocks.
  • Jones has an excellent Strength rating, allowing him to shed blocks and break through for a high tackle rate.
  • Work on his finesse move to pair it with his Tackle rating and you might see a surprising amount of sacks from him this season.
  • Kevin Hogan has an extremely high Throw Power rating, making him a great candidate to take over for Alex Smith within the next few seasons.
  • Hogan is quick and agile, making him mobile if the pocket is compromised.
